Canada Obama’s personal Palestine?

Memo to Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper: Looks like Barack Hussein Obama’s got it in for you. Why else would the American president invoke Canada as the standing example to liken the American-Canadian relationship as the closest one to Israeli-Palestinian relations at today’s press conference with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas? That means Obama, who has only visited state-visited this country once, sees Canada as his personal Palestine!
“In his effort to convince the local populations, who have been in a decades-old (and some might even say millennia-old) conflict, Obama invoked perhaps the most peaceful neighbors on the planet, that is the U.S. and Canada.” (The Blaze, March 21, 2013). “We can’t afford to have our kids in bed sleeping and suddenly a rocket comes through the roof, but my argument is even though both sides may have areas of strong disagreement, may be engaging in activities the other side considers to be a breach of good faith, we have to push through those things to try to get an agreement,” Obama said. Rockets coming through the roof in America from The Land of the Maple Leaf? Mr. Obama needs to step out of his Reality TV world into the real one.

If Canada Free Press (CFP) subscribed to full-blown conspiracies, we would think that someone tipped him off in Israel that Sun Media TV’s Brian Lilley pointed out the stark difference between Prime Minister Stephen Harper and other western leaders in the strong stand he takes on Israel, on Glenn Beck TV last night. “I think Prime Minister Stephen Harper is taking Canada closer to Israel than the United States is now. He’s been standing firm”, Lilley said. Or was it (yikes!) when Glenn Beck pondering what Obama was doing in Israel right now, said, “This morning I read a piece by Caroline Glick on Canada Free Press”? Lilley was right in identifying Harper as the strongest defender of Israel among Western leaders. Ignoring all brickbats that Canada has abandoned its role as an honest broker in the Middle East, Harper continues to take a stand stand on Israel. Those stands have been made on the public record, including 2010, while addressing an anti-Semitism conference in Ottawa, when Harper launched into a take-no-prisoners defence of Israel, saying that no matter what the political cost, he would take a stand against those who would single out the Jewish state for condemnation. Harper’s strong stand for the protection of Israel was revealed again recently, when Canada was among only a handful of countries voting against the Palestinian bid for observer state status at the U.N. And Harper was noticeably alone in the world community on Canada’s reluctance to publicly condemn Israel’s announcement to build housing units in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, in spite of it being at odds with Canada’s position on settlements in the occupied territories. In his rockets-coming-through-the-roof address today, Obama bragged about solving arguments with Canada “diplomatically”. “I mean, you know, the United States and Canada has arguments once in awhile, but they’re not the nature of arguments that can’t be solved diplomatically,” he said. Not true. Obama reneged on the Canada/US Free Trade Deal, costing Canadians jobs. Obama treats Canada the same way he treats other long-established American allies. He stabs them in the back.
