Christian Couple, lives in ruins after campaign of hate, take last stand in UK’s Supreme Court

Peter and Hazelmary Bull run a Bed and Breakfast in Cornwall in southwest England, though the business they run is now for sale. The couple had a well advertised policy of only letting rooms with double beds to married couples, regardless of sexual orientation, since the business started in 1986. Then arrived a gay couple, Martin Hall & Steven Preddy, in 2008.
The gay men sued and were awarded £3,600 in county court, upheld on appeal, after being refused a room with a double bed. Then began the hatred! The Bull’s received death threats, their building was vandalized, and their website was hacked and replaced with pornography. Such is the hatred of the supposedly tolerant left! Last month Daily Mail columnist Richard Littlejohn underscored this, writing that the Bulls suffered a “campaign of hatred, vilification and intimidation” under the guise of tolerance. He continued “Not for the first time it’s obvious that those ‘liberals’ who preach ‘tolerance’ are themselves the most vile, intolerant bigots imaginable”. But Steven Preddy, one of the plaintiff’s told ITV (Channel 3) it’s “unfortunate” (because the Bulls) “stuck to their guns, In some ways, I think they’ve brought it on themselves really”. Preddy seems to forget that it was in fact his legal action that brought it on.

While the Bull’s are being supported by Christian charity legal representation the gay couple is afforded the luxury of support from the taxpayer-funded Equality and Human Rights Commission. In court this week Aidan O'Neil QC, representing the Bull’s told the panel of five judges:
“This case is unusual - perhaps almost unique. (Their decision was founded on) religiously informed judgment of conscience. The Bulls are Christian believers. They believe the Bible to be God's word, which reveals God's perfect standards. They take this responsibility very seriously and always strive to keep their consciences clear before God. If the Bulls are required by law to provide double-bedded rooms in their hotel to persons who are not in a monogamous opposite sex marriage with one another, then, in order to remain faithful witnesses to their religious beliefs and true to their religiously informed conscience, they will need to cease operating their hotel and, indeed, to withdraw from providing overnight hospitality to any section of the public.”
The court also heard a similar case, that of Susanne Wilkinson who was sued by a homosexual couple, Michael Black (64) & John Morgan (59), after she refused to offer them a double bed at her Swiss Bed & Breakfast in Berkshire in March 2010. A joint ruling is expected most likely in December! Oh tidings of comfort and joy! Also during the week the Bull’s appeared on the ITV ‘Daybreak’ show, which revealed the level of hostility that exists for Christian’s in Britain, as ITV’s Lorraine Kelly employed frequently abrasive questioning toward Hazelmary Bull. Mrs. Bull stated “we’re hoping that some way or another, a pathway will be found through all of this so that two different lifestyles which at the moment have had a head on collision could live together in our society”. Kelly retorted with all guns blazing from the liberal playbook: a) “may I suggest you’re in the wrong business, only 43% of couples are married”; b) “It’s 2013”; c) “you don’t accept that you’ve done anything wrong, anything offensive.” Co-host Aled Jones (interrupting) chimed in with, “surely the God you worship is a loving God, a tolerant God, and if people are in a civil partnership they are obviously in love so what’s wrong with them sharing a bed?” Kelly confronted again the fact that the Bull’s are making bad business decisions because only 43% of couples in the UK are married. When Hazelmary replied she wasn’t interest in what the percentage was Kelly interrupted with “you should be”. Then when Hazelmary began to say “God demands” Kelly interrupted again with “your god”. Despite Lorraine Kelly’s curt behavior Mrs. Bull, who did most of the talking for the couple, was polite but firm saying at one point “He is a loving God, a forgiving God, He is a longsuffering, but He’s not entirely tolerant.” Viewer Emma Boyd said on Facebook: “I don’t entirely agree with the B&B couple. But I don’t think Aled and Lorraine would speak so rudely to a Muslim.”, while Eileen Hook, said: “Shame on Daybreak and Lorraine. Having said that, the couple stayed calm and presented their views in a confident and polite manner”. No doubt the Bull’s, as well as Susanne Wilkinson in the partner case face an uphill battle with the court. Clearly there are many people considered mainstream who are quite intolerant towards Christian views and would like nothing more than to see the elimination of Christianity altogether. Britain for the time it seems has already passed the place of debate on Christian values being upheld. The battle is on now for Christianity to even hold onto some sort of minority status to gain legal exceptions to practice what they believe. And it is clear that many are not even willing to tolerate that.
