Pelosi’s Pariahs

Pelosi’s Pariahs, Tom DeLay, Rick Perry
Given my deep-rooted cynicism towards most politicians, meeting Tom DeLay at a conference last month, came as a bracing tonic.
My eyes tend to glaze over any time a Canadian or American politician is in sight, (mercifully, I don’t run in to too many British ones) but meeting DeLay shot permanent holes straight through my “they’re-all-the-same” theories. In or out of office, DeLay, sidelined at the peak of his career by a ravening pack of Democrat wolves led by Nancy Pelosi, is not the same as other politicians, he towers over them. Seated at the table with him at the conference lunch break, all could see that Tom DeLay’s head was the only one bowed in prayer. He was the only one quietly saying Grace. A Canadian government employee sitting next to me told DeLay how exuberant she had been upon hearing the news of his exoneration, and asked how he was finding life after having been found innocent. From the New York Times (On Thursday, Nov. 19, 2013, a Texas appeals court threw out the November 2010 verdict, ruling that what Tom DeLay was convicted of -- laundering corporate contributions to divert money to elect Republicans to the State Legislature -- did not violate any state laws.) This is how DeLay answered the government employee at the conference luncheon.

“Well, I’m a pariah,” DeLay replied, noting that no one would hire him, exonerated or not; that he was down to a once a month column in the Washington Times; that he had waited almost a full decade for his name to be cleared and that it had cost almost $12-million in legal bills. Make that a Nancy Pelosi “pariah”, since it was Pelosi who led the charge to run Tom DeLay to ground. It was the same kind of “bipartisan” baloney Congress is trying to sell We the People to this very day that that enabled the ravening Democrat wolf pack to go after DeLay through the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. Pelosi has repeatedly and cunningly denied having anything to do with the takedown of Tom DeLay: “The top Democrat on the Ethics Committee, ready to throw in the towel last week, is now conferring with Pelosi on -- "timing" issues: (DailyKos, Sept. 27, 2004)
“The top Democrat on the House ethics committee has quietly met with Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) to discuss the highly sensitive case of Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-Texas), as well as other matters before the panel. “While Pelosi has portrayed herself repeatedly as having no role in the DeLay case, or anything else before the ethics committee, Rep. Alan Mollohan (D-W.Va.) acknowledged in an interview last week that he has met with the Minority Leader recently on the DeLay matter, now at a critical juncture. The ethics committee may vote as early as this week on whether to open a full investigation into the Texas Republican's activities.” “Mollohan said that there was nothing untoward about his talks with Pelosi and that the subject matter was strictly limited to timing and other procedural issues. Both Mollohan and Pelosi's office denied that she was applying any pressure on the West Virginia Democrats to move forward with the case against DeLay. "Any time the Minority Leader would merit it or needed a briefing about the status of any ethics case, I would give it to her," said Mollohan, who added that Pelosi had herself requested updates on several occasions. "If she wants to know, she should know it." "Hopefully, Pelosi IS putting pressure on committee Democrats to move forward with the probe. We live in a time where Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist campaigns in South Dakota against Tom Daschle. Republicans have destroyed any semblance of collegiality. I fully expect that Pelosi is out for blood. “And the fact of the matter is, it's not even a partisan issue. We have criminal indictments issued for the very organization that DeLay founded. His top aides face life in prison. “To be fair, the committee rules forbid committee members of talking to anyone outside the committee about the deliberations, but who here really thinks anyone follows those rules? And in any case, if it's such a hideous crime, Republicans can ask for an ethics investigation in due time. After they vote to investigate DeLay.”
So, like a bloodhound on the scent, Pelosi knew there was no bigger game in Congressional power than Tom DeLay, nicknamed ‘The Hammer’ by Democrat enemies. “Tom DeLay was the very symbol of Congressional power and, in the view of his detractors, excess. His political career collapsed in 2005 when Mr. DeLay, a Texas Republican who was the House majority leader, was indicted on money-laundering charges that resulted in a three-year prison sentence. (New York Times, Sept. 19, 2013) “But Mr. DeLay’s long and colorful life took another turn on Thursday as a Texas appeals court threw out the November 2010 verdict, ruling that what he was convicted of — laundering corporate contributions to divert money to elect Republicans to the State Legislature — did not violate any state laws. “ Just as he had no problems being the only one at the conference lunch table with his head bowed in prayer, DeLay showed courage when he said after hearing he had been exonerated: “I just thank the Lord for carrying me through all of this,” Mr. DeLay told reporters as he left a meeting of the Texas Republican delegation. “It really drove my detractors crazy because I had the joy of Jesus in me, and they didn’t understand it.” “As he talked to reporters, Mr. DeLay traced his problems back to 1995, when the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee began filing ethics charges against him. “I have raised and spent on legal fees over that period over $12 million,” he said. “But that’s what they wanted to do, they wanted to destroy me.” After being through hell and back, and now stranded in a kind of purgatory where those who could hire him fear to tread, Tom DeLay is far more stoic than he is embittered. The conference where I met him was about how to pull an Obama-captured America back from the precipice, and in his address DeLay did not paint a pretty picture about America’s chances for survival. “I’m afraid that there is no turning back and can only pray that I’m wrong,” he said. He spoke of the battle to salvage the US, explaining that even those on the side of good all seem to be on a different wave length with their ideas not leaving scope for the notions of others--no matter how good those notions. Unless we can all pull together, it’s not likely we are going to turn things around, he said, and he is perfectly right. Like the rosiest apples on a tree, those patriots working diligently to make a difference are being picked off, one at a time by the powerful Pelosis. Stealthy ambushes that leave their victims broke after being exonerated continue. That’s because In the new God-forsaken United States of America, Pelosi, Harry Reid, Barack-Valerie J-Obama are the law and no one seems able to do anything effective against it, other than carrying on in varying degrees with ‘The Big Grouse’. Yet Pelosi’s vicious attacks on Democrat opponents aren’t leaving them bereft in the “I-give-up” state she so stridently seeks. The only way to turn America back on the right track is to delay the tactics of the so-called Fundamental Transformation of America until the Constitution can be fully restored. What poetic justice it would be if the new agenda replacing Obama’s fundamental transformation one gets to be called “OPERATION DELAY”. Let it be known to one and all that even as a walking wounded Pelosi Pariah, Tom DeLay stands in the same dignity he had before the smear-laden attack came along to stop him in his tracks. Tom DeLay’s down but never out, and Pelosi has never wiped the smile off his face, a real smile that comes not from Botox but straight from the heart. America truly needs to shake off its long time slumber. Pelosi made a pariah out of Tom DeLay and is now trying to do the same for Texas Governor Rick Perry.
