Internationally acclaimed animal sculptor Edward Waites will work on a clay mould of Kingman, a retired British Thoroughbred racehorse owned by Khalid Abdullah and trained by John Gosden. As a three-year-old he won the Group 1 Irish 2000 Guineas, St. James's Palace Stakes, Sussex Stakes and Prix Jacques le Marois.

The model will be sculpted live at both The Chelsea Flower Show and Royal Ascot so viewers can look on. “After spending time with Kingman as a stallion I am winding back the clock trying to identify him as the great three year old he was,” says Edward, who has been commissioned by a number of Royals, including the Queen. “He was a perfect subject for me as such a special horse and perfect to work on when I visited him before his 2015 covering season kicked off. “I am hoping to capture all the aspects of him that made him so prolific on the race track and bringing his character out in my sculpture. Exhibiting at the Chelsea Flower show is a great opportunity for me to demonstrate the art of sculpture and how these big bronzes are created.” Visitors to the Edward Waites Sculpture stand (SR44) will also be able to talk to the sculptor as he works. The RHS Chelsea Flower Show at Royal Hospital, Chelsea, London, runs from May 19 to 23 and Royal Ascot runs from June 16 to June 20.
