In the “fairness” that the left love to apply to everything, it is not really fair to say Geller won the argument. Camerota doesn’t know enough to be able understand what the argument was

Alysin Camerota will never be ready for prime time

In its infancy, television was commonly referred to as “the boob tube,” and it was fashionable for the elites to deny they ever watched it. How television was viewed changed when John F. Kennedy was assassinated in 1963. Decades before 24/7 cable news networks emerged, the big three US networks, CBS, NBC, and ABC dropped their regularly scheduled programming and provided continuous coverage of the aftermath of the assassination for four days. Those who were watching at the right time were able to see Jack Ruby shoot Lee Harvey Oswald to death in real time. Viewers knew they were watching history in the making. Television became more respectable.
It has been now more than 50 years since Kennedy was killed and it seems it’s time for the boob tube moniker return. Not because of silly reality shows and mindless comedies but because of the idiotic views of some of the talking heads that pass for intelligent discourse. In the aftermath of the attempted terrorist attack in Garland, Texas outside of a free speech event, CNN’s Alysin Camerota interviewed the event’s organizer, Pamela Geller. It was clear Camerota is a firm believer in “free speech, 'but',” as those on the left interpret the First Amendment. When she spoke about the right of free speech, everyone knew there as a “but” coming. Those who actually understand and believe in the First Amendment concluded Geller won the argument with Camerota hands down. But Geller didn’t so much win the argument as Camerota showed she had absolutely no idea what parameters of the argument were. What clearly showed through in the exchange between Geller and Camerota was that the talking head does not understand the difference between “Islam” and “Muslims.” To put it in words even a ditzy CNN info babe can understand, “Islam” is a religion; “Muslims” are people who happen to practise that religion.

What appeared to set the anchor off was a statement made by Geert Wilders, the Dutch politician, who spoke at the free speech conference. Wilders said that Judeo-Christian culture is superior to Islam because “we have humor and they don’t. Islam does not allow humor...” For those whose religion is leftist secularism, it was bad enough Wilders said Western culture was superior to Islam. But a sad looking Camerota seemed shocked the Dutch politician and Geller said Islam does not condone humour. Camerota was simply incapable of understanding the two were not saying none of the three million Muslims in the United States have no humour. They were speaking about Islam. But Camerota took it as an insult to every single Muslim in the United States. Shocking! To say Islam does not condone humour is not the same as saying no Muslim has a sense of humour. The Catholic Church opposes sex outside of marriage but that does not mean no Catholic engages in extramarital sex. Camerota is simply clueless. Even the politically correct CBC series, Little Mosque on the Prairie, had a Muslim make a joke about Muslims being known for their sense of humour. Wilders and Geller were talking about a religion and its ideology, not about individual Muslims. The same was true when Geller used the term “savages.” It was clear she was talking about the two gunman and other jihadists who kill babies, infants, women and men simply because they are infidels or they did something deemed offensive to Islam. Camerota looked particularly pathetic when she acknowledged there is freedom of speech in the United States but Geller and her group should not have exercised it because it was provocative. In the “fairness” that the left love to apply to everything, it is not really fair to say Geller won the argument. Camerota doesn’t know enough to be able understand what the argument was.
