Preschoolers Solve LA's Homeless Veteran Problem

Fellow Veterans and Friends of Veterans Ronald Reagan famously said: "The nine most terrify words in the English language are: "I'm from the government and I'm here to help."

Nowhere is that statement more accurate and more terrifying than when VA Secretary Robert A. McDonald arrived in Los Angeles with his "homeless expert" Vince Kane. Mr. Kane is from Philadelphia and he's not a Veteran nor is he homeless. Nevertheless, he's a proclaimed expert on Veteran homelessness and he's walking around LA with a couple thousand VA rent vouchers and he will continue to walk around with them as there's "no place to call home" for homeless Veterans, with LA already having some of the highest rents coupled with the lowest vacancies in the nation. His "housing first" propaganda may work in New Orleans, Utah, etc., but it doesn't work in Los Angeles. Read this article in California Political News and Views: "As L.A. rents spike, hard-to-get housing vouchers become hard-to-use" As though this challenge isn't difficult and serious enough on their own, homeless Veterans are competing with non-Veterans for government assisted housing and the competition is overwhelming.

Secretary McDonald, Expert Kane, Mayor Garcetti, Congressman Lieu and Senators Feinstein and Boxer (a collective IQ of ZERO when it comes to solving Veteran homelessness in Los Angeles), are now scheming to pass a bill in Congress for "Enhanced Use Leases" to protect the nine-plus illegal occupants on VA property. They also want to use these "leases" in partnership with "non-profit" operatives to build "supportive housing" at the VA, and according to the master plan committee it will take several years to bring any new housing to fruition on VA property. What to do .... Preschoolers could figure out the homeless Veteran problem in Los Angeles within a matter of minutes. Just bring them onto the VA property and explain that 127 years ago this land was deeded and promised to be permanently maintained as a National Home for disabled and destitute Veterans. Show them the 10-acre UCLA baseball diamond, the 25-acre Brentwood School athletic stadium, the 100+ new Mazdas, Dodges and Jeeps stored on VA property, along with the Quick Silver towing facility, Tumbleweed buses, etc. Then explain that Los Angeles is our nation's capital for homeless Veterans because all these facilities are on VA property illegally and have forced war-injured and impoverished Veterans to live homeless and hungry on Skid Row and in back-alley squalor. Next, ask them what their solution would be. Without hesitation and in unanimous agreement they would say: "That's easy! Kick all these illegal occupants off and bring our homeless Veterans home to their promised land." Then they'd say: "That was really easy! Do you have any bigger problems you want us to solve?" It's that simple and that easy, but so-called adults who are entrusted as public servants and cannot solve this major problem because they lack the basic understanding of preschoolers. Here's a new inspiring slogan for VA problem solving: "We're from preschool and we're here to help." It's time to fire VA Secretary McDonald and "homeless expert" Kane and demand that President Obama declare Los Angeles to be in a "state of emergency" and provide immediate humanitarian housing on VA property in accordance with the attached outline and letters from the 96-member Los Angeles Neighborhood Council Coalition and Vietnam Veterans of America, Region 9 (California, Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah, Colorado, Hawaii, Guam and the Philippines). Take action and demand that our U.S. Government listen to our preschoolers so that we can immediately solve the homeless Veteran problem in Los Angeles.
