The 2008 Genie Awards gave out statuettes to the best in the Canadian film industry this year and the members of the Academy crowned a new Queen when they gave the bulk of the important awards to Sarah Polley and her film, Away From Her.
There wasn’t a more deserving winner in Genie history than Sarah. She found the short story upon which the film was based (Alice Munroe’s The Bear Came Over The Mountain) ; she wrote the screenplay; she directed the film; and she has been promoting it since its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival last September..

Status Doesn’t Always Equal Success… Celebrities bust into the Fashion worldBy Caitlin Low Thursday, January 17, 2008
It seems like in today’s mass pop-cultured world of fashion, the acceptance of being a “designer” seems to come lightly to those of celebrity status. One must not over look the fact that because a person is simply deemed a “designer” that he or she is good at their trade, and this should be said of celebrities.
Currently, amongst young Hollywood there is this need to design clothing. Of course that goes without saying that every time one of these “pop princesses” are interviewed about their fashion career choice they gush “ I have always loved clothes and fashion”. It’s interesting how the majority of these girls have always loved fashion, but lacked the sense of self-expression when they have people like celebrity stylist Rachel Zoë dressing them.

The Ascension of a BatmanBy Joshua Hill Tuesday, November 20, 2007
It wasn’t that long ago that I reported – upon seeing it reported elsewhere – that one of the DC Universe’s favorite sons, Bruce Wayne, would be saying adios to life. It was a massive announcement that seemed to somehow get slipped underneath the proverbial welcome mat of the internet. Well, a few weeks on, and there is more news.
The Death of a Batman?By Joshua Hill Wednesday, November 14, 2007
Sometimes, there is a bit of news, seems not to have been publicized as much as you would think. This story is based upon one such tidbit. Rich Johnston from Comic Book Resources in his Lying in the Gutters column has revealed to the world--in what I think is the only location so far--that Bruce Wayne is to be killed off next year by DC comics.

Words of praise adorn the wall of Auto Switch’s myspace page. And why wouldn’t it? Their music is a more pop-ier/ less intense sounding version of fellow Canadian band Nickleback.
