In a brutal killing spree in Fresno recently, a black man, filled with hate and who had killed a 25-year-old Motel 6 security guard only days before, additionally murdered three other white men in what the city’s police chief stated was an attempt “to kill as many people as he could… and that is what he set out to do.” Fresno Chief of Police, Jerry Dyer, in a statement following the arrest, explained that although the shooter yelled “Allahu Akbar” as he was loaded into a police car, investigators do not believe the shootings had anything to do with terrorism. The shooter had social media accounts that expressed anti-white and anti-government sentiments.
While the Fresno police reacted quickly to the shooting rampage, and possibly spared other’s lives, all police forces in California are not committed to protecting the citizens equally. Recent violent clashes between anti-Trump and pro-Trump demonstrators have the public becoming increasingly alarmed by the shocking violence present. In Berkeley, on more than one occasion, violence erupted between those who were openly supporting President Trump and those who are against the president’s policies. Berkeley police on both occasions apparently did nothing to intervene or make any arrests. The clashes represent more of the same kind of confrontations that occurred during the presidential campaign that brought out the haters of Donald Trump.
Such an overt failure to maintain the semblance of law and order represents a politicization of the law enforcement responsibility, which is supposedly is a function being paid for by those who pay their taxes—and Californians pay a great deal in taxes! A serious question should be posed to California citizens as to whether they honestly believe their tax dollars—tax dollars which pay the salaries of local police officers—are being well utilized as police stand by and observe innocent people being beaten and pepper sprayed and by bought and paid for rioters, And those very same law enforcement officials who work for their employers—who are your real employers?
Despite such blatant politicization of proper law enforcement functions in such clear public displays of “acceptable” lawlessness, a more insidious effort is being perpetrated by the California Senate as it moves to situate California as the first “sanctuary state.” While local police chiefs and mayors can limit the actions of the police officers on the scenes of rioting, state legislators are currently introducing legislation to provide increased protections for illegal immigrants. The California state Senate recently approved a bill last that would prohibit the local law enforcement agencies from enforcing federal immigration laws.
Essentially, this would provide a haven for illegal immigrants who move across the U.S. border, and provide restrictions against local police and other law enforcement officials from utilizing resources to detain, report, investigate, or arrest individuals for immigration violations. This would mean that such a law would directly violate federal laws that have been on the books for quite a while—laws that the Obama Administration chose to apply selectively. It would also mean more violence on California city streets, as those who come to California with little respect for state law, are willing to violate the law.
If that is a bit difficult to believe - consider the current lack of respect for the law exhibited in many localities across the state by state and local government officials! The reality of sanctuary cities represents a form of state nullification of federal laws! Civil war anyone?
A week ago Tuesday, Attorney General Jeff Sessions was on a tour of the border separating the United States and Mexico, and vowed a new focus upon immigration enforcement under President Trump’s Administration. The nation’s top law enforcement official essentially focused on the enforcement of the laws enacted against illegal abuse of the U.S.-Mexico border, as he zeroed in on confrontation of the gangs and the drug cartels plaguing the southern regions. Sessions explained:
When we talk about MS-13 and the cartels, what do we mean? We mean international criminal organizations that turn cities and suburbs into warzones, that rape and kill innocent civilians, and who profit by smuggling poison and other human beings across our borders…
… It is here on this very sliver of land—on this border—that we take our stand. It is a direct threat to our legal system, peace and prosperity.
Sessions’ strong words come at a time in which the State of California is making legal moves to convert the entire state to a “sanctuary state” permitting illegal aliens some degree of sanctuary or acceptable access to the state and its facilities in direct violation of federal law. While the Obama Administration did not enforce federal immigration law with regard to several “sanctuary cities” across the United States, Attorney General Sessions made it clear that this was a “new era” in enforcement of the law.
This is a red flag to the Secular Progressives and those Left-leanng, Democrat controlled states that favor a very loose immigration policy because for decades their party has utilized, if not manipulated the potential of the illegal and uneducated, or low-information “voters” that crossed over the borders into the United States. Definitely, the California leftists are “up in arms” over the challenge from the new administration. The battle is far from over, the the battle lines are being drawn throughout the nation—between those who strive to hold on to the traditional American values and those who care little for the freedom won at the founding.
True freedom does not equate to doing whatever one damn well pleases because that is chaos; however, true freedom requires responsibility. True freedom requires acceptance of responsibility for the well-being of others and the common good, which is a foundation of a civil society. Lawlessness, whether perpetrated by criminals in the streets, instigated by criminals who finance lawlessness, or legislate it from the halls of government is adverse to a civil society and will usually usher in chaos and destruction. It is time that people who love their home states, and those who love America stand together for law and order and against chaos - no matter where it originates!
