Donald Trump’s one word message to Pope Francis from South Carolina: “Woo Hoo!” This time The Donald doesn’t need a Tweet; he doesn’t need FaceBook because the voters of South Carolina are getting this message out: “Trump won the primary!”
The 10-plus point lead he scored over runners-up Senators Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz in the South Carolina primary says it all, even with a mainstream media claiming it couldn’t happen, Donald Trump could very well be on his way to ‘Make America Great Again’ by capturing the U.S. presidency. Only days before the voters in South Carolina got a chance to mark their ballots, the bombastic Republican primary front runner was outed by the pontiff when he told reporters on his flight back to Rome from Mexico that Trump was not a Christian. “COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Donald Trump claimed victory in South Carolina's Republican primary Saturday, deepening his hold on the GOP field as the contest moves into the South. Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio were in a race for second place.
“Trump's strong showing in South Carolina marked his second straight victory in the Republican primaries. Underscoring the electorate's frustration with Washington, he was backed by nearly 4 in 10 of those who were angry at the federal government, and a third of those who felt betrayed by politicians in the Republican Party. “The South Carolina results were also being watched closely for indications of who, if anyone, among the more mainstream candidates might emerge to challenge Trump. “Texas' Cruz was banking on a well-regarded get-out-the-vote operation and 10,000 volunteers to pull out a strong finish in South Carolina as well as in the Southern states that follow. “But his failure to stop Trump in South Carolina could puncture that strategy. Still, the Texas senator will still have more than enough money to run a long campaign. “Florida's Rubio was hoping a top-tier finish in South Carolina could help establish him as the mainstream alternative to Trump and Cruz. Many GOP leaders believe neither Trump nor Cruz could win in the general election.”

Mind you, GOP leaders and much of the mainstream media have been saying the same thing about Trump. Trump’s triumphant finish in South Carolina underlines his remarks yesterday that the Pope ‘did not understand’ the crime problem that comes with illegal immigration. “Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump said Friday that Pope Francis did not understand the gravity of the “crime problem” caused by illegal immigrants crossing the US-Mexican border when the pontiff appeared to criticize Trump’s plan for a border wall. (FoxNews Feb. 19, 2015) Unlike politicians, Trump often double-downs when controversy follows his often outspoken and sometimes inflammatory remarks.
“He’s a terrific person,” Trump said of the pope, the leader of the world’s 1.2 billion Catholics. “To me it’s [about] illegal immigration. I don’t think the pope really understood in terms of the crime problem and the problems of illegal immigration.” "A person who thinks only about building walls, wherever they may be, and not building bridges, is not Christian," Pope Francis said Thursday. A Vatican spokesman clarified the Pope’s remarks Friday, saying he “in no way [made] a personal attack” on the New York businessman."
But most folk believe that claiming a person who considers himself a Christian is not a Christian is as personal as it gets. Hearing that the pontiff had declared Trump a non-Christian didn’t stop Evangelicals in South Carolina for getting out to vote Trump. If there was any ill will behind Pope Francis’ pronouncement that Trump is not a Christian, it was a balloon that faltered and didn’t fly, while Trump soared sky high. The Donald’s likely now wondering how you say “Woo Hoo!” in Italian.
