It’s curious that when establishment Republicans circle the wagons, somehow Donald Trump is always left outside the perimeter, where he is relentlessly pursued by Hispanic supremacists. This time RINOs were frightened by his remarks regarding the judge presiding over the Trump University class–action lawsuit.
If the judge had been a Bulgarian or a Baptist there would have been no controversy.
Unfortunately Judge Gonzalo Curiel is of Mexican descent and Hispanics have replaced Social Security as the third rail of GOP establishment politics.
This kerfuffle started with a standard Trump stream–of–conscious rant during a speech he made in San Diego, where the lawsuit is being tried. During a 1,676-word digression on the topic, exactly 272 words were directed toward the good jurist.
Other topics that received rapid fire mention during the remaining 1,404 words include: Trump University, why Trump is the real victim, the “dopey” attorney general of New York’s campaign contributions, Obama, various disgraces, how everyone loved Trump U, how smart it was to get report cards from students, his top lawyers, why Trump doesn’t settle lawsuits, how much Mexicans are going to love him, what a winner Trump is, Papa John’s Pizza, ineffective attack ads, the rigged system and class action lawyers.
His specific references to the judge included calling him a “hater” who is “not doing the right thing.” He also said he “believes” the judge is a Mexican, which is “great” and he “should be ashamed of himself” — not for being a Mexican! — but because many of Curiel’s actions during the trial have been a “disgrace.”
What do hysterical GOP leaders advise Trump to do regarding his lawsuit? Adopt a “relax and enjoy it” strategy while he’s ravaged by Democratic trial lawyers.
Meanwhile, Jeb Bush is wondering how Curiel got off so easy.
So what about this paragon of impartiality who has allegedly been impugned by Trump?
First off, it appears that although he wasn’t born in Mexico, the Washington Examiner reports Judge Curiel may well be an anchor baby, which could have an influence on his feelings regarding Trump and his wall.
But more telling is Curiel’s membership in an organization called San Diego La Raza Lawyers Association. As Prof. Victor Davis Hanson points out, “Many societies created words to highlight their own racial purity. At times, "Volk" in German and "Raza" in Spanish meant more than just shared language, residence or culture; those words also included a racial essence.”
This organization is passed over in the mainstream media as just an association of like–minded individuals. Compare that to the hypothetical the New York Times response if the judge presiding over the trial of a Black Lives Matter defendant was a member of the Ferguson Aryan Lawyers Association.
Trump gets an unsolicited endorsement from David Duke and he’s supposed to sue Duke for libel, yet no one has even suggested it might be a good idea for Curiel to resign from an organization that shares a name with another group that wants to give Texas and California back to Mexico.

Even former U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales says Trump is well within his rights to question the impartiality of the judge.
What Stuart Taylor hyperventilates as “Trump’s Assault on the Judiciary” hardly compares to the roasting another California judge is receiving over his decision in a sexual assault case.
Judge Aaron Persky is undergoing a nationwide attack after he sentenced a Stanford swimmer to six months in jail for sexually assaulting a coed who drunk herself into stupor.
Here’s a judge who, as far as we know, has never entered the Playboy Mansion or praised the wings at Hooters, but he’s being characterized as an insensitive misogynist who’s soft on sex.
Sen. Barbara Boxer says the sentence is “outrageous.” Reuters reports Stanford law professor Michele Dauber has started a movement to recall Persky. And 400,000 social justice warriors have clicked on a petition at Change.org to have Persky buried under Trump’s wall.
Yes, Trump is intemperate, but what else is new? I’m certain Trump would have gone after any judge with whom he had a disagreement. He’s an equal opportunity offender.
