"There has to be, I think, some sort of way in which we can sort through information that passes some basic truthiness tests and those that we have to discard, because they just don't have any basis in anything that's actually happening in the world," Obama added. “His remarks came amid an election campaign that has seen Republican candidate Donald Trump repeat ideas and take on key staff from right-wing media outlets."Trying to come up with altruistic and noble ideas to save democracy and more adult-like ‘debate’, in reality, the equivalent of telling all townsfolk: Climb down off your high horses, put down your IPads, and “shut up and sit down”. "We are going to have to rebuild within this wild-wild-west-of-information flow some sort of curating function that people agree to," Obama said at an innovation conference in Pittsburgh. (AFP)
“Obama’s finding-the-truth endeavours come at the end of an eight-year presidency in which Obama has been plagued by false scandals over his place of birth that have forced him to play media-critic-in-chief.”(AFP)Never mind that no one but Obama “forced” him to play media-critic-in-chief. Nor did anyone force him to seal off all his records.
“For much of that time, Republicans and Democrats -- which their own media sources -- could rarely agree on even the most basic facts to build a debate.(AFP) "That is hard to do, but I think it's going to be necessary, it's going to be possible," he added. "The answer is obviously not censorship, but it's creating places where people can say 'this is reliable' and I'm still able to argue safely about facts and what we should do about it.”This from the same saviour of democracy and debate whose wife claims the alleged misconduct by Republican nominee Donald Trump is “frightening”.
“In visceral terms and with a heightened sense of urgency, Obama painted the choice for president as a moral imperative. “This is not normal, this is not politics as usual,” she said. “This is disgraceful, it is intolerable, and it doesn’t matter what party you belong to. ... No woman deserves to be treated this way – none of us deserves this kind of abuse.”What has become “normal” and “politics as usual” in the Obama administration is a president, who when going abroad for eight long years, has insulted the people of the country that pays his salary. That’s a “kind of abuse” that hurts both women and men. Meanwhile, things are no longer okay at the O.K. Corral known as America, and won’t be until the brazen lies of the Democrats and mainstream media can be purged.
