Grassley’s referral follows the completion of a Senate Judiciary Committee majority staff analysis of more than 20,000 pages of documents provided voluntarily by the organizations and companies involved. While the impetus for the investigation was the release of a series of videos regarding transfers of fetal tissue by the Center for Medical Progress, the committee’s analysis and findings are based strictly on the documents obtained independently from tissue procurement companies and Planned Parenthood.Grassley’s announcement also came a fortnight after the House Select Panel on Infant Lives took similar action by releasing “a list of nine criminal and regulatory referrals against abortion providers and/or fetal tissue procurement companies made as a result of their investigation into the illegal practice of selling aborted baby remains for profit.” Evidence of wrongdoing at Planned Parenthood came to light last year when the Center for Medical Progress published undercover videos of Planned Parenthood officials discussing (among other things) the harvesting of organs from babies and explaining the business side of the illicit organ trade in the United States. As usual, left-wingers lied, claiming the videos were deceptively edited. When the videos were released, the Left subjected CMP founder David Daleiden to a vicious campaign of harassment to send a message to the pro-life community. Instead of going after Planned Parenthood, the Left used the legal system to wage war against Daleiden.
