America, Where Are You?

Some folk would argue that with 80 police officers killed so far this year, that these and all police shootings are related. Police lives not only matter but save other lives. Lives lost in the tragedies of the day are in the frontline of political battles. Meanwhile while the news of the day is focused on the battle of taking down Confederate statues, a woman fighting desperately to get away from a sexual predator ripping off her clothes, had to suffer alone as pedestrians and drivers simply passed her without stopping. “The Los Angeles Police Department has released CCTV footage showing the August 12 incident; LAPD Police Captain Captain Lilian Carranza said at a news conference the woman, 35, “fought like a tiger” and screamed “fire” over and over again until the man fled. (NBC Los Angeles, Aug. 15, 2017)
“Los Angeles Police Department released a sketch of the suspect, who was reportedly smelling of alcohol, Hispanic, and aged between 40 and 50. “Police stated that the woman, in her 30s, was returning home at roughly 5:30 a.m. from getting coffee and was entering her apartment when the man accosted her and spoke to her in Spanish, which she does not speak. She politely asked the man to go away, then tried to enter the apartment complex using a key card. But he blocked her pathway several times, then began touching her. That progressed to him shoving her to the ground and removing her pants and underwear, according to KTLA. “Meanwhile, surveillance videotaped several cars slowing down while the woman was being assaulted; they did not stop; neither did a woman pedestrian."
As the first comments under the Daily Wire story can attest, this is not the first time no one came to the rescue of someone whose life was at risk. This is genuinely horrifying, but considering American's recently filmed a mentally handicapped man drown rather than help I am not surprised by anything.
