SCSU prof explains how college has become a very expensive, complete joke

If you're a high school junior or senior thinking about options for college - or the parent of such a budding adult - I hope you've recognized by now that the time and money invested in a college degree is not necessarily the value society is always trying to convince you it is. But just in case you're still wallowing in that delusion, you might want to listen to Geoffrey L. Collier. He is in the trenches, a professor of psychology at South Carolina State University, and yesterday he published a devastating piece in the Wall Street Journal that lays bare what a joke higher education has really become.

Get ready for more Democrat subject-changing nonsense

Democrats know this: If the 2014 mid-term elections are about ObamaCare, they will get bazooked. They will lose the Senate. They will find their House minority even further eroded. A large enough Republican majority in the Senate, combined with terrified Democrats who see the havoc ObamaCare is wreaking on the nation, just might be able to cobble together the 67 votes to accomplish a veto-proof ObamaCare repeal.

Spot on: John H. Cochrane on how America should have, and still could, reform health care

I had never heard of John H. Cochrane before I read this piece this morning in the Wall Street Journal. That was my loss. He is a professor of finance at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and a senior fellow of the Hoover Institution, and he has a clear sense that even most Republicans miss about what was really wrong with health care pre-ObamaCare, and why ObamaCare was not the right solution at all.

White House: Who's up for one more ObamaCare 'fix'? (And don't tell the insurers!)

We've been hearing it for awhile now: The deadline to sign up for insurance through ObamaCare was 11:59 p.m. on the night of December 23, which of course was last night. You had to be enrolled by then to have coverage effective by January 1, which is how you avoid the fine tax (edited by Chief Justice John Roberts).

Cracker Barrel apologizes, puts Duck Dynasty/Phil Robertson merchandise back on shelves

It turns out two can play at this game. When Cracker Barrel made the uncharcteristic decision last week to pull Duck Commander products from its shelves, saying it didn't want to offend those upset about Phil Robertson quoting biblical teaching on homosexuality, it got an earful all right. From Christians and others interested in defending Robertson's statements, as well as his right to make them.

White House pulls another last-minute ObamaCare 'fix' out of its butt

It's so hard to believe this isn't working out. You let a bunch of liberals who understand nothing about how insurance works set the rules for how insurance has to work. Then, when everyone starts losing their coverage and premiums are soaring - and no one can sign up for new coverage even if they want to - you make up new rules on the fly for how to "fix" all this. And the result is that you completely destablize the market you were so sure would work better if only you could run it.

Scott Walker's latest: Time to get rid of Wisconsin's income tax

While John Boehner and Mitch McConnell are firing shots at conservative organizations for criticizing the latest GOP punt on fiscal policy, let's see what's happening in statehouses across the country - particularly in Paul Ryan's home state of Wisconsin.

Now showing on WhiteHouse.gov: Cheesy mortgage ads

It's not an entirely rhetorical question. I don't visit WhiteHouse.gov regularly, but I went there this morning to see if I could find some information about an event they're putting on . . . and whoa. Imagine my excitement when I found I could enter my credit score and see if I qualify for a mortgage refinance! For all I know they've been doing this for awhile and I only just now noticed it, but it seems it would have stuck out before this. Tell me if you know.

WaPo-ABC poll: Obama approval lowest of his presidency

The question for me is not what finally got the attention of the voters. It's what was blinding them in the five years previous. But I think I know the answer, and we've discussed it here before. All of Obama's other economy-killing, job-destroying, debt-accumulating policies were plain to those a) were paying a lot of attention; b) had some understanding of basic economics . . . in other words, not a Keynesian and not a substance-challenged mainstream journalist. But when you eliminate everyone who fails to qualify for both A and B, you're not left with that many people. So Obama could be wreaking havoc on everything while spinning things with the help of the media to make it look like nothing is his fault.

Paul Ryan would earn a lot more respect if he would just say this

I know you're all upset with Paul Ryan. You're writing off any hope of his qualifying as a "true conservative." He just handed Patty Murray the keys to the spending car and got almost nothing in return, and to make matters worse, he announced it as if it represented some sort of accomplishment. Now, since then he's acknowledged reality some, saying yesterday, "I'm not trying to over-sell this as an enormous budget accomplishment. It's not. But it's important that it prevents government shutdowns. It's important that it rejects tax increases."

New Glock commercial sure to infuriate liberals everywhere

You'd think the party that claims to support strong, independent women would love her. OK, no you wouldn't. Because they don't. The party in question loves a woman who knows where to go to get government benefits. A woman like this is doing it all wrong:

ObamaCare now directing unqualified people to Medicaid

So you decided to be a good citizen and go on HealthCare.gov to get that ObamaCare. You make upwards of $50,000 a year, which is decent but not so much that you can't get a subsidy in the age of Obama. So you figure you'll find out what your subsidy is and sign up.
