VA scandal: No accountability from an inept, disinterested leader

If you’re wondering why President Obama can only respond to the horrors at the Veterans’ Administration (having heard about them on the news) with declarations that he is “madder than hell” but no resolve to fire anyone or otherwise hold anyone accountable, I can tell you one reason:

Political lie detection tips

As we approach the end of primary election season for many states, dirty politics rears its ugly head again. It usually consists of lies, half-truths or false implications about a candidate’s opponent in TV, radio and print media. Its intent is to cause you to change your opinion of the candidate being attacked.

Vote for the candidates who will work on the right problems

In a mid-term election year like this one – when we have many candidates for many offices to focus on rather than a presidential race to consume our attention – it’s difficult to keep straight who is running and what they stand for. Even more so, it’s not always easy to know from a candidate’s statements whether he or she will really do the things that help improve the condition of the nation.

The Hermanator's Leadership Test

There is obviously a big difference between a politician and a leader. As we move toward the end of the primary season here in Georgia - with the final days of voting upon us - I can sympathize with any voter who feels frustrated trying to cut through all the nonsense and identify those rare candidates who actually are seeking office because they want to be authentic leaders.

The dishonest hit piece that arrived at my house

One of the worst things that is happening in the political life of this nation is the tendency of political candidate - and let's be honest, both parties do it - to use any opportunity to create a negative impression about an opponent, no matter how dishonest that impression may be.

He called me Uncle Tom, but most just call me Mister C

Turning a negative into a positive is always a liberating experience. It happened again last week when a caller to my radio show insisted that I was an "Uncle Tom". His assessment was for all of the usually ignorant reasons, against which I tried to use facts and logic to help him see the light.

26 House Democrats not buying White House nonsense about the IRS

The White House would have you believe that the IRS scandal is not a scandal at all, but a bunch of partisan nonsense being perpetrated by Republicans. The media has tried its best to give this narrative credibility by claiming that the scandal “fizzled” nearly a year ago.

More bad news on the employment front

Applications for U.S. unemployment aid fell this week to 319,000. Last week the number was 344,000. Now you might think that’s good news, but it’s not. What matters when you look at this number is the rolling four-week average, which the Labor Department says is up 4,500. That means we’re still looking at about 325,000 people a week filing for unemployment claims.

You built that!

When President Obama arrogantly said "you didn't build that" during one of his many speeches, businessmen and businesswomen all over America were offended and outraged. It was crystal clear at that point that the president of the United States of America was clueless as to how a business is started and how a business survives.

Job killer: Seattle mayor to impose $15-per-hour minimum wage

What do you think you’re going to get when you decide your city is going to impose a minimum wage twice the one imposed by the federal government? You know you’re going to get a lot of lost jobs and struggling businesses, which will have a hard time balancing their cost of labor with the value they’re receiving back from their workers. But you’d think you’d at least get the admiration of your left-wing supporters.

Sorry, Nancy: We're not going to stop asking about the Benghazi lies

Poor Nancy Pelosi! She is very upset because Republicans won't stop talking about Benghazi. Of course, whenever Nancy Pelosi says anything, you know it's something Democrats have decided behind the scenes to repeat because they think it will help them win the news cycle.

Want to be rich? It's your habits that make the difference!

Want to be successful? Want to be rich? A lot of people would have you believe it's all about luck and privilege, or where you were born, or who you know. But it's not. Those things can put you in a better position, without a doubt, but no one builds real wealth or maintains real wealth without maintaining good habits. By the same token, if you're struggling financially, don't believe the people who tell you there's nothing you can do about it. Establishing and maintaining good habits puts you in a strong position to break out of a difficult position and to move into a better one.

Axe the tax code

If someone on this planet can come up with an improved axe, which they did, then why can't we put an axe to our current tax code and replace it?

Fail: Fewer Americans are working today than in 2007

A report from congressional Republicans last week offered data to back up the argument that this recovery – nearly five years along since the end of the recession in June 2009 – has been the slowest and least robust since the end of World War II.

An amazing speech from a Morehouse College student

A few days ago, I spoke at Morehouse College, which is a historically black institution. Now I often encounter tremendous intelligence from the college students I meet when I speak on campuses - which I do a lot - but on this particular night, I think the student who spoke before me may have actually given the best speech of the night.

The private sector is where they do affirmative action right

Last night I spoke at Morehouse College, which you may know his a historically black institution, so I wasn’t surprised when I got a thoughtful question from a student about yesterday’s Supreme Court ruling concerning Michigan’s ban on affirmative action.
