Immigration bill requires 3 forged passports before it’s a crime
UPDATE: So, I did some further digging on this issue. Apparently the new law does not alter 18 USC § 1543, which makes a single forged passport a crime. Thus, the alterations to 1541 are designed to specifically address the amounts of forgery being perpetrated. 1543 carries a penalty of fines and/or 10 years in jail for first offenders whose bogus passports are not used in crimes involving drugs or terrorism. That remains in effect and the alterations to 1541 do not supersede it.- Tuesday, June 25, 2013
