LAS VEGAS - In this 2005 Las Vegas Sun photo, hundreds of local cabbies are shown blocking the Las Vegas Strip in protest of a proposed bill then-awaiting ratification by the Nevada Legislature that would have prohibited many of them from taking pay off's from business owners for delivering patrons to their strip clubs and other tourist dependent businesses.

New City Hall - A Terrible Waste of Money

imageOscar Goodman's Taj Mahal city hall proposal is idiotic. Our present city hall was expanded less than ten years ago, and the LV Metro Police plan to vacate tens of thousands of square feet of space in the existing building in the near future. Also, it has not been mentioned by Goodman or his minions on his staff or the city council what will become of the present city hall? I believe it will become a ghost town if abandoned by the city government. A minimum expenditure of $267 million tax dollars in these trying times so Oscar Goodman's name can be on a cornerstone for perpetuity is ridiculous. Vote NO on a new city hall. - SM Las Vegas plans to build a 303,000-square-foot city hall at First Street and Clark Avenue. The project would require that $267 million be raised through public bonds.

Should Las Vegas casinos be liable for Rizzolo’s debts?

The following story on the front page of today's San Francisco Chronicle raises the question if LV casinos including the MGM, Hard Rock, and Palms can be held responsible for knowingly taking millions from a man who owe's the IRS, a beating victim, the City of Las Vegas, and others over $28 million dollars?

Steve in Europe with Las Vegas Convention and Visitor’s Authority moochers

imageHere I am in Europe (on right in brown jacket) with six moochers from the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority and some good guys on a fact finding mission. In addition to the LVCVA moochers, attending were three City of Las Vegas officials, one reporter, Bob Snow, and former astronaut Joe Kittinger (standing next to me wearing a blue jacket). Joe was the first man to make a solo crossing of the Atlantic Ocean in a gas balloon, and on August 16, 1960, he jumped from a helium balloon at 102,800 feet and fell for 4 minutes and 36 seconds reaching a maximum speed of 614 mph before breaking the sound barrier with his body and opening his parachute at 18,000 feet.
