First, we must understand that the Constitution does not give rights, and it does not guarantee rights. We institute government to protect our rights from being infringed upon by other individuals, groups, organizations, and from the government itself that has been put into place to safeguard those rights by following the rule of law. In the end, our rights belong to us, so it is really our own responsibility to guarantee our rights.
