TORONTO: B’nai Brith Canada has urged greater vigilance leading up to the Jewish Fast Day of Tisha B’Av next week (Tuesday, August 9, 2011), a day set aside to mourn the destruction of the Jewish Temples in Jerusalem.
This comes following reports of three incidents of vandalism in the Toronto area during the past three days. In these incidents vandals used stencils to spraypaint black and red swastikas in visible locations. The latest incident occurred at the Beth Tikvah Synagogue on Bayview Avenue where a swastika and the words “Islam will rule” were spraypainted near the school entrance late yesterday afternoon in broad daylight.
