Chicago taxpayers should be outraged. Then again, they’re the ones that keep voting these people into office. This city takes incompetence to dizzying heights. Already one of the most dangerous cities in the country, last year their own accountability school report card would demonstrate that huge majorities of students in the city’s worst schools, 75 percent in elementary and 95 percent in high school, failed to meet the state standards.
Last year, the Chicago Tribune pointed out that “Just 30% of Black students meet or exceed reading standards in the third grade, and the number falls to 14% for 11th graders, according to data from the Illinois State Board of Education.”
The Comment section of online publications is the new front in the ongoing Cancel Culture Battle.

This sounds to me just like what happened here many years ago in Canada.
I do not know if it was just local or wide spread but it was the teachers selling the equipment. Long story again but basically the school had received they said the wrong kind of computers and did not have a teacher who knew how to use them so they took them home. Their own kids each got one and they offered to sell us brand new computers for our business at 3,500 dollars each, we were in business and already had newer computers they were neighbors their kids friends with my son at that time. When we heard where these computers came from and the school now had none we refused of course. My son was no longer friends with their son after this. The school added a new teacher who had computer knowledge, they said? and all new again computers. The school board was addressed re the theft by the teachers who were selling them but the school board did not care they said they could not get refunds on these wrong computers anyway? So way back then this was going on and other things that should not have been that teachers were making extra money on at taxpayers expense. In a farming community this story spread like wildfire. Never mind the other things these greedy teachers did.

Now let's hold on here! The statement "Chicago schools clearly aren't getting the job done..." is quite obviously wrong, once you realize the actual "job" of the educational system is to keep the peons ignorant and eliminate the ability to think critically, all while raising the emotional content so as to keep the sheeple angry and thus easily controlled. I mean, if it works, why change it?

Well...it's not like the schools (especially in Chiraq) teach anything of value. This equipment would just have been used for Leftist indoctrination, anyway.
