BALTIMORE — A nationwide network of millions of self-driving cars whisking suburban commuters to work is a pleasant utopian vision, but getting there would almost rival the Manhattan Project that created the first atomic bombs.
Self-driving cars have been in development for years, and their backers claim the vehicles will be ready to dominate the car market in the foreseeable future.
