UN Watch report calls out "fabrications" in Sudan's submission, regrets that too many countries spurned opportunity to "scrutinize, not praise Khartoum"
GENEVA, -- Countries "fell over themselves" to praise Sudan at this morning's mandatory UN review of Sudan's human rights record, according to watchdog organization UN Watch. In anticipation of the proceedings, UN Watch released a report contesting what it calls "fabrications, distortions and glaring omissions" in Sudan's submission to the world body, and expressed concern that a majority of member states would use their speaking slots to praise the regime of President Omar al-Bashir, rather than fulfill their duty to apply scrutiny to Sudanese laws and practices which run afoul of universal norms.
