Wind Grid Problems

New research studying almost 3,000 wind turbines suggests wind turbines erected in Britain will only last half of their claimed lifespan. Results reveal that onshore and offshore wind turbines degrade differently. For onshore, the monthly load factor or the amount of electricity generated as a percentage of nameplate capacity, drops from an already low 24 percent in the first year to a meager 11 percent after 15 years. Offshore wind, meanwhile, declines more drastically from 40 percent in year one to 15 percent after ten years. This should not be surprising, as saltwater is an incredibly hostile environment. (1)

Bloomberg Business Week reported 'wind turbines taller than the statue of liberty are falling over.' The instances are part of a rash of recent wind turbine malfunctions across the US and Europe ranging from failures of key component to full collapses. (2)

I wish someone would tell the North West Territories and Yukon in Canada all of this again. I cannot believe the governments are still trying to push wind and solar up there. They use diesel generators in small villages and yes as they say they break down a lot so is the price and transportation costs of of getting diesel, but wind and solar would still be worse. I read the news from up there and they are still telling them the same lies they told us, they are much colder, darker and windier than we are and ours are a very expensive, huge debt problem an unfunny joke, here in southern Ontario. IMO, I think nuclear power would help them more but of course that is also demonized.

Fossil Fuels, it's what keeps the wheels turning!

By Ipadofdoom on 2023 07 24

The Texas energy commission ERCOT has done some very interesting things in its decades old history….
One was basically reducing Texas connection to other states electrical grids.
Texas is an island electrically.
ERCOT also took the unusual step (unusual because no tiger state did this so no other state’s gas lines froze) of refusing to “winterize” it’s natural gas transmission lines.
(Removing the extreme humidity that is part of a normal natural gas well’s natural output-but that costs the drillers MONEY)
So the result?
Texas natural gas lines froze during a cold snap…..the exposed valves and stations went hard below freezing and eventually the ice crystals forming on the valves grew and shutoff gas flow)
Sooo yeah…it was fossil fuels that mainly failed in Texas…..
