Hillary Clinton proudly declares roughly half the country is her 'enemy.'

Last night's Democrat debate was filled with ugly moments. Many of them were supplied by an audience that seemed positively giddy in its anti-American, anti-capitalist fervor, but several came from the candidates themselves. Chief among these was a line that was probably intended as a throwaway joke, but ended up revealing an awful lot about Hillary Clinton.

During the final minutes of the debate, Clinton was asked who she was most proud to call an enemy. Her answer was telling:

COOPER: Which enemy that you made during your political career are you most proud of? … CLINTON: Well, in addition to the NRA, the health insurance companies, the drug companies, the Iranians … probably the Republicans.

Funny right? It's a quick gag designed to get a laugh. At least, that's what Hillary will say. Sorry, but no. This was probably Hillary's single genuine moment during the entire evening. ...And that's the problem. "The Republicans" are roughly half the country. In the midst of a national debate, with millions of people watching, Hillary thought that it would be a good idea to reveal that she views 50% of American voters as "the enemy." Think about that. If she wants to win, she will, presumably, need some percentage of her 'enemies' to vote for her. So it's a bad strategic move to alienate them. Hillary's campaign is in the dumper, most people don't trust her, but she thought this was a good idea. It's also bizarre choice to declare war on a huge segment of the population which is already wary of Democrats thanks to the Internal Revenue Service's targeting of conservatives. Is this who voters want running the punitive and out-of-control IRS? Democrats, in private, would probably admit to loving the idea. The rest of us, who aren't trending toward fascism, not so much. Instead of saying "Obviously the planet's number one enemy is ISIS" or "I don't like to single out enemies because I hope to work with everyone," Hillary decided to declare war on half of the very nation she hopes to rule govern. If you're hoping for a President who will wield power fairly, ask yourself this: "Hillary has been in positions of political power for most of her life - how have her previous enemies fared?"
