TORONTO, - Subaru Canada, Inc. (SCI) announced today in Toronto that it has been named 'Best Mainstream Brand' for the second year in a row in ALG Canada annual Residual Value Awards. The ALG Canadian Residual Value Awards recognize the vehicle in each industry segment that is predicted to retain the highest percentage of its original price. Awards are given in 19 vehicle categories and also for the two brands with the highest overall predicted residual values among all mainstream and all luxury vehicles. This year's awards are based on 2011 model year vehicles.

"Subaru's second annual showing as the top mainstream brand proves Canadians embrace its lineup of reliable and fun all-wheel drive vehicles," said Raj Sundaram, senior vice president, Solutions Group and ALG. "Subaru's strong reputation for quality and careful matching of supply with demand also keeps residual values high, helping it nab the top spot." In addition to overall honours as the Best Mainstream Brand, four Subaru vehicles won their individual categories: Best Compact Car: Impreza. ALG cited Subaru's signature all-wheel drive and reliability for its loyal following among outdoor-loving Canadians, and noted that controlling supply was a key factor in maintaining the vehicles' value. Best Midsize Car: Legacy. Legacy's recent redesign, significant sales gains in the midsize segment, and restrained incentives were important contributors to the model's success in this important category, according to ALG. Best Midsize Utility: Outback. ALG notes that Outback's handling, fuel efficiency, and ample interior room make it a great alternative to a traditional SUV, while matching supply with demand has kept residuals high. Best Sporty Car: Impreza WRX-STI. This is the third year the WRX and STI have claimed top honours in the Sporty category. According to ALG, these vehicles' powerful combination of performance, value, and reliability are what make it a winner. Award winners are determined through careful study of the competition in each segment, historical vehicle performance and industry trends. Vehicle quality, production levels relative to demand, and pricing and marketing strategies are among the key factors that affect ALG's residual value forecasts. "Subaru is delighted to receive this outstanding recognition from ALG, and to be named Best Mainstream Brand for the second time is further proof of what Subaru owners already know—that a Subaru is excellent value for the money," said Shiro Ohta, chairman, president, and CEO of Subaru Canada. "This adds yet another level of confidence for people who might be considering Subaru ownership."
