The year…..1815. Two German brothers, Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm, wrote an emotion-packed book of 211 stories.
One of the fascinating stories in that book has the title,
The Old Grandfather's Corner. The grandfather lived with his son and daughter-in-law. His eyes had become dim and his knees trembled as he walked. He could hardly hear. As he sat at the table, the old man often spilled soup all over himself or the table.
One day the couple moved "grandfather" away from the table behind a screen. They let him eat soup from an old clay bowl. Once as he sat in the corner eating, he dropped the bowl from his trembling hands and it broke. The daughter-in-law scolded him for being so careless, but he only looked at her with sadness. They replaced the broken bowl with one made of wood.
A few days later the son and wife saw their little boy sitting in the yard putting together some pieces of wood. His dad asked him, "What are you making, my boy?" The son answered, "I'm making a bowl for you and Mom to eat from when you grow old."
The husband and wife looked at one another, and then they started to cry and tears trickled down their faces. They brought grandfather back to the table where he continued to eat his soup with them. They never again treated him in an unkind way.
