Suspects tell cops they want to die as martyrs

Charlie Hebdo suspects surrounded by police, appear to have a hostage; UPDATE: Suspects tell cops they want to die as martyrs

The details are unclear at this point, but here is what USA Today is reporting as of about 5:30 a.m. EST Friday:

Two brothers suspected of killing 12 people in an attack on satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo on Wednesday appear to have taken a hostage, a French police official said Friday. Xavier Castaing, chief spokesman for Paris regional police, spoke as a massive operation unfolded in the town of Dammartin-en-Goele, about 25 miles northeast of Paris, where the brothers were believed to be holed up. Helicopters and hundreds of security forces accompanied by ambulances have arrived in the town, which is around 7 miles from Charles de Gaulle Airport. The airport has closed two runways. Earlier Friday, the suspects, Cherif Kouachi, 32, and his older brother Said, 34, stole a Peugeot car and were on the move again, a French security official told the Associated Press. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because situation was still developing. Shots were fired.
Fox News is reporting that the police have the suspects surrounded inside a printing house. The hostage appears to be one of four people who were inside the printing house when the suspects entered - the one unfortunate person who was not able to escape. A third suspect, 18-year-old Hamyd Mourad, has surrended to police, but he has an alibi so we don't yet know what kind of evidence the cops have connecting him to the shooting Bouth Kouachis were reportedly on the U.S. no-fly list, as the U.S. has been aware of them and their apparent ties to Al Qaeda for some time. UPDATE: According to CNN, the suspects are in communication with the cops and they say they want to die as martyrs. If that's the case, why don't they release the hostage and let the police oblige them cleanly and quickly?
