Chicago PD reluctant to call racist, filmed, torture a hate crime - goes with 'kids make stupid deci

So, let's get this straight. A white, special needs, man is kidnapped by four ADULT black assailants. He's bound, gagged, beaten, cut, forced to drink toilet water, and tortured while his captors scream "f*** Trump" and "f*** white people." It's obvious - painfully obvious - that this was politically and racially motivated. There's simply no way a thinking human being can watch the video and come to any other conclusion. Their violence and their language are, without question, fueled by racial and political rage.
But, don't bother telling that to the Chicago PD. They seem to feel the video shows "Kids making stupid decisions," and Police superintendent Eddie Johnson has ruled out political motivations. Are the perpetrators stupid? Most assuredly. Is that their motive? Clearly, the answer is no. These quotes from the Daily Caller paint a stunning picture of the Chicago PD's reaction:
"When asked by a reporter why the suspects made anti-white and anti-Trump comments and whether that justifies investigating the horrifying incident as a hate crime, Chicago Police Department Commander Kevin Duffin said,Kids make stupid decisions — I shouldn’t call them kids, they’re legally adults. But they’re young adults and they make stupid decisions.” He added, “That will certainly be part of whether or not we determine this a hate crime or whether or not this is stupid ranting and raving.” At the end of the press conference, Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson was asked about the Donald Trump connection and a possible political motivation for the assault.

He ruled out a connection and said, “If you look at that video… it’s just stupidity,” and later flat-out said, “No” on whether his department was looking into the crime as politically-motivated.
Wait...what? First, if you're admitting they're adults, the whole "kids being stupid kids" thing doesn't fly. Second, If they're screaming their motives while committing their cime ON VIDEO it doesn't take Sherlock Holmes to determine their reasons. Third, and even more unbelievably, CNN is reporting that police are actually focusing on the victim's special needs status as the reason this happened...

Wow. I'm at a loss for words on this one. It's not bad enough that this crime occurred, but now the victim and his family must deal with the fact that the police are bending over backward to soft-peddle the horror of what happened. There are defining moments in a country - in terms of government, media, and culture. I suspect this is one of them. The police have a choice to make: Will they deal with reality, or continue to play political games? The Media has a choice to make: Will they finally get fed up and start telling the truth, or will they continue to sell the false notion that racism is only flows in one direction? The culture has a choice: Will we doom ourselves by continually coddling and tolerating animals like the four "kids" seen in the video, or will we decide that enough is enough? Is the nation so far gone that this can occur, and the force put in place to protect us refuses to acknowledge the truth behind it? I'd love to say "no there's still hope," but "maybe" feels closer to the truth.
