The all-new 'vast right wing conspiracy'

Conspiracy theorist Van Jones: This whole Bergdahl story is just a GOP smear campaign

Hey, remember Van Jones? He was one of Barack Obama's Czars until he became yet another administration embarrassment and was forced to resign. He was supposed to be some kind of "green jobs" adviser, but he ended up spending most of his White House tenure denying he was a communist and explaining how his name landed on 9/11 truther petitions.
These days, he appears over at CNN. However, if you think that might legitimize him somehow, you needn't worry. He's still a complete crackpot. Yesterday on Crossfire, he announced that the whole Bergdahl story is a far reaching right-wing conspiracy. If Jones is correct, the entire story is a highly orchestrated smear campaign emanating from the bowels GOP headquarters:
"I'm Van Jones on the left. In the crossfire tonight, we have guests that disagree on the deal that freed Sergeant Bergdahl. Now, you remember the feeling you got when you first heard that we had finally gotten our last captive soldier home from Afghanistan? Remember that feeling? I do, too. Unfortunately, the Republicans want us to forget about it.

Now, I admit, there are important answers we have to answer here, but Sergeant Bergdahl isn't even out of the hospital yet and already the air waves are being filled mysteriously with former soldiers just trashing the guy. What is going on here? Well, it turns out that there are Republican operatives who are working behind the scenes to get some of those guys on television. This is an orchestrated smear campaign. The implication is that President Obama should have left a U.S. soldier to die, but if he had done that, the same Republicans would be attacking him for doing that, so the whole thing is completely outrageous."
Ummmmm ...If Jones is going to work for a cable news network, he might want to look into how the business works. When a President illegally frees five of the world's most dangerous terrorists in exchange for a single anti-American deserter, that's called a "huge news story." Networks exist to tell these stories and they like to have things called "guests" appear on the air. So, they start searching for people who are related to the subject matter. As a result, the people who served with Bergdahl are coming out of the woodwork to recount their experiences. There's no GOP orchestration necessary. If the President hadn't broken the law, negotiated with terrorists, and made one of the worst deals in history, Bergdahl's former associates wouldn't be making appearances. Van Jones can say whatever he likes but, in reality, there's no one to blame but his former boss.
