New 'eco-fee' tax

Dalton McGuinty’s HST Not the Only Tax Grab on Canada Day

NEWS: Ontario families struggling to make ends meet thanks to Dalton McGuinty’s $3 billion HST tax grab will be shocked to find it wasn’t the only tax grab the Liberals had cooking on Canada Day. Nearly 5,000 items have been added to the list of everyday household products hit with so-called “eco-fees” on July 1st.

Phase two of the Municipal Hazardous and Special Waste (MHSW) Program kick-ed in on July 1st adding thousands of new products to the extra fee list. The new products are household items including single use batteries, rechargeable batteries, fire extinguishers, and thermometers. These new products are added to the so-called “eco-fee” list that charges $4.03 levy for every can of paint, $0.12 a pill for prescriptions, and $3.99 a bag of concrete mix an Ontario family buys.
