Take a page out of the Vietnam War era

It is time for a new “old” kind of protest in DC

I wish to add my two cents as follows: To the Columnists who wrote of protests during the STOU and of Limbaugh's caller who talked of laying off employees. There's an approach to this D.C. problem I've not seen explored and it would have a devastating impact. It starts with a suggestion from the Vietnam anti-war era playbook. In May of 1971, the tactic intended to be employed by marchers against the war was to arrive in Washington, fill the streets, make passage impossible and thereby shut down Washington, D.C. [Mind you, I'm not endorsing the group of that era, just reciting a fact.] The motto was: "If the Government Won't Stop the War - We'll Stop the Government."

Tens of thousands of students descended on Washington with the intent of blocking every street in the city to make the government inoperable. The Nixon administration - if memory serves - with A.G. John Mitchell in the lead - reserved the local professional football stadium to house the arrestees. Of course, the students got a bit violent and the whole exercise was counterproductive. BUT - what if the same type of citizenry that flowed into Washington earlier this year were to arrive on a pre-planned date in the Spring [in survivable weather] - fill the streets by the capitol and SIT. And refuse to move unless arrested and physically carted off? This is not so crazy an idea. Follow thru' with me and think thru' the results: That would get coverage. Imagine seeing D.C. police scooping up aged veterans in Legion and VFW caps who refused to get into paddy wagons voluntarily. Imagine seeing elderly women being lifted from the streets. Imagine folks in wheel chairs being placed under arrest. In other words - the Ghandian tactics so heavily endorsed by the Left would create images throughout the nation on television that would be devastating to the incipient dictatorship in Washington today. For average middle-aged and elderly Americans to see non-violent citizens of their own age swept up in mass arrests and housed in football stadiums and jails - undoubtedly without adequate water and lavatory facilities - would spark an immediate identification with all their fellow Americans. Just the diabetics and blood pressure treatments needed for such a crowd in custody would present a crushing public relations blow to Obama. The youth? Well - in 1971, their tactics involved violence and they were young enough to withstand the tactical police methods without sustaining much in the way of serious injury. But if Obama and his merry band of thugs had police sweeping up elderly who might sustain broken arms, concussions, tear gas poisoning, etc. it would be a tactical victory of immense proportions. For youth to see folks of their parents and grandparents age being injured while being manhandled at the direction of Obama would be a shock to their psyches. Better still and of utmost importance to the national morale and psyche -consider how the D.C. police and National Guard, etc. would ACTUALLY react! If the D.C. police and the National Guard and military responders REFUSED to sweep up people of the age of their parents and grandparents it would mark a new American Revolution unlike anything we've ever seen. For young men, fresh out of police academies and others who've seen active duty - to see the generation of their parents and grandparents waiting for them to arrest them would - without debt - have serious and profound effects on the ability of those young men and women to carry out their duties. It could mark a major turning point in American history. It could also spell the end of the movement to dictatorial and unconstitutional exercises in power that Obama and those of the thug mentality he employs are trying to head. Sincerely, Jim Anderson
