Now let's apply it in our politics too

It took the disaster of Hurricane Harvey to find the goodness in us

The displacement of lives, hopes and dreams by Hurricane Harvey has been unprecedented by all measures. People and organizations offering unsolicited assistance has also been unprecedented. That's because helping one another in a disaster sees no color, political party affiliation or ideological marking. It brings out the best of humanity
As we have seen in recent months, politics brings out the worst of humanity. The uncontrollable Hurricane Harvey disaster should be a reminder that God is still in control, and that sometimes He has to get our attention to bring out the best in all of us. Thousands of volunteers, millions of dollars, and billions of prayers are pouring out to help those affected by Hurricane Harvey. That's the goodness in us, instead of the manufactured divisions driven by a few of us. It's going to take a long time for many people to put their lives back together. In the meantime, let's pray that civil and rational discourse will return to our national narrative to solve problems that matter, as we pray and support our fellow citizens impacted by the most devastating hurricane in our history. "Surely goodness and mercy shall follow us, all the days of our lives." – a paraphrase of Psalm 23:6
