How quickly we forget.

To hear the screaming scalded cats on Fox, Kevin McCarthy is the tragic victim of a vindictive Matt Gaetz, who dislikes him so much he would end McCarthy’s speakership just to settle a personal score.

Kevin McCarthy is a snake, a smooth talker, and definitely not a conservative. He’s the ultimate swamp creature, he pretends to want “what’s best for the country,” but really wants what’s best for himself.

If McCarthy was a saint, why was there such a problem getting him the speakership in January? Did all 20 of the conservative holdouts have a personal problem with him?

In December of last year, I advocated new leadership for the Republican Party and to replace McCarthy, McDaniel, and McConnell…

First, they violated the sacred rule that the party members choose the candidates in the primaries, not the leadership elites. Primaries are where new and exciting candidates are discovered and developed. Kevin McCarthy interfered in the primaries on a massive scale. On September 27, the Washington Post detailed his efforts to "systematically weed out GOP candidates who could either cause McCarthy trouble if he becomes House speaker or jeopardize GOP victories in districts where a more moderate candidate might have a better chance at winning."

Second, they accepted donations from outside the party. McCarthy used his Congressional Leadership Fund--a super-PAC with over $165 million--to help "moderate" primary candidates and incumbents succeed over challengers from the "far-right" and "election-deniers."

Third, you don't oppose your own members of Congress. In North Carolina, McCarthy tried to unseat Madison Cawthorn, a conservative firebrand endorsed by Trump.

The fourth rule is "don't bring shame to the GOP." It is just coming out that McCarthy has a disturbing connection with FTX, the cryptocurrency giant that recently filed for bankruptcy of $3.7 billion. In the Cawthorn race, millions were spent to defeat him… National File reported McCarthy used left-wing oligarch money to fund a "secretive," anti-MAGA campaign within the GOP to protect his establishment speaker ambitions."

Armed with corrupt FTX crypto money, Kevin McCarthy spent the 2022 midterms picking winners and losers, with his long-term speakership fantasies at the top of his agenda… The seats they were fighting for were surrendered to Democrats, and conservatives "in the know" spoke of a "power-sharing" agreement between McCarthy and Democrat leadership, which now appears to be materializing.

After McCarthy finally won the Speakership, in my article on January 13, I said “It's clear that he's no friend of conservatives. His "Liberty Score" is an F. He and his dark money allies systematically undermined MAGA candidates in the 2022 GOP primaries and even in the general election. Rank and file GOP members didn't want him, and only 36% of likely voters think the country is on the wrong track. We learned a lot about Kevin McCarthy over the last few days, especially his willingness to pull out all the stops to intimidate any who opposed him by threatening to strip them from important committees. Other McCarthy supporters threatened incoming GOP congressmen. McCarthy has spent his career putting special interests ahead of those of the American people in favor of lobbyists, government bureaucrats, the military industrial complex, and has done nothing to control our borders, oppose the drug cartels or oppose Chinese expansion.”

McCarthy is rebranded as a wounded hero, betrayed by a few vindictive conservative MAGA radicals

I cited this video with conservative attorney Mike Davis at the 3:31 mark where Davis brands McCarthy as a chameleon, not a conservative.

But now McCarthy is rebranded as a wounded hero, betrayed by a few vindictive conservative MAGA radicals.

How easily we are fooled by smooth talking and symbolic gestures.

In his lofty speech as new Speaker, McCarthy promised…

• …a commitment for an economy that's strong. [Where you] could fill up your tank of gas and feed your family where paychecks grow and not shrink.
• …a commitment for a nation that's safe, where communities are protected, law enforcement is respected and criminals are prosecuted.
• …A commitment for a government that is held accountable, where Americans get the answers they want, need, and deserve.
• …It's time for us to be a check and provide some balance, [on] the president's policies.
• …We pledge to cut the regulatory burden, lower energy costs for families, and create good paying jobs for workers by unleashing reliable, abundant American made energy.

McCarthy was pretending to investigate the wrongdoings of the Biden administration while underfunding the select committees and slow-walking their investigations

• …We're going to pass bills to fix the nation's urgent challenges from wide open southern borders to American last energy policies to woke indoctrination in our schools.
• …We'll also address America's long-term challenges, the debt and the rise of the Chinese Communist Party.
• …we will end wasteful Washington spending.
• …From now on, if a federal bureaucrat wants to spend it, they will come before us to defend it.
• …we will create a bipartisan Select Committee on China to investigate how to bring back the hundreds, thousands of jobs that went to China and then we will win this economic competition.
• …we will hold the swamp accountable from the withdrawal of Afghanistan to the origins of COVID into the weaponization of the FBI.
• …we will use the power of the purse and the power of the subpoena to get the job done.
• …We must secure our border.

Sounds great. Which items on the list were accomplished? Which did McCarthy fight for?

How quickly we forget that McCarthy promised to hold a vote on term limits, promised to release the full January 6 tapes, and promised to rein in rampant Democrat spending.

It’s now clear that McCarthy was pretending to investigate the wrongdoings of the Biden administration while underfunding the select committees and slow-walking their investigations. For example, Democrat committees investigating Trump had 40 investigators while the GOP committee investigating Biden had five.

On January 4^th, while the battle for Speaker was commencing, 60 true conservatives wrote a letter opposing McCarthy.

Over the past decade, the House has grown increasingly autocratic. Rank and file members are routinely denied a chance to participate in the legislative process, committees are ignored, deals and loopholes for interests abound, and there is virtually no amendment process for any bills, large or small. The outcome reflects the process: bills that cater to a handful of members in leadership and K street lobbyists, but ignore the priorities of the voters.

Months ago, these members made clear that this established way of doing things was no longer acceptable. They made public a series of proposed reforms designed to democratize the House – to engage the broader membership in legislating, and bring accountability back to the People’s House.

Rather than engage them in a good faith negotiation, Rep. Kevin McCarthy has instead maligned both the requests and the messengers. He has publicly and through proxies leveled attacks against members of his own party, including threatening to deny committee assignments for those who continue to oppose him. Moreover, he has failed to answer for, or commit to halting, his coordinated efforts in the 2022 elections to promote moderate Republican candidates over conservatives.

Now that your memory has been refreshed, how do you see Kevin McCarthy now? As a victim of a personal vendetta, or a sleaze ball whose lies finally caught up with him?

My sincere prayer is that whoever replaces him will have the guts to listen to the American people and stand up to the Swamp.
