News: Dalton McGuinty has been caught shutting down public scrutiny on his 2010 budget. The deficit laden Budget Bill was rammed through the legislature in record time. Now the legislation will receive a meagre five hours of committee meetings – less time than it takes for the Premier to drive home to Ottawa.

This is not the first time the Liberals have been caught shutting down public scrutiny of their real agenda. Previously the Liberals only allowed a few hours for public hearings on Dalton McGuinty’s record-breaking $3 billion HST tax grab. He shut down a probe of E-Health at the Standing Committee on Government Agencies in September. And now he is shutting down public scrutiny of a Budget Bill that hides his cancellation the mandatory review of the unelected and unaccountable LHINs. Quotes: “It is unacceptable that a budget bill that will double the provincial debt, create the largest deficit in the province’s history, and amends 27 separate acts will get less time for public input than it takes the premier to drive home to Ottawa.” -- Norm Miller, Ontario PC Finance Critic. “Past omnibus bills like the HST Act and the Green Energy Act hid severance payments for HST tax collectors and took away municipalities rights to decide on major projects in their own backyards. Five hours of submissions is not enough time to see what he’s hiding now.” -- Norm Miller, Ontario PC Finance Critic. Quick Facts: Bill 16, the “so-called” Creating the Foundation for Jobs and Growth Act, 2010, creates the largest deficit in Ontario history – $21.3 billion. It amends 27 separate pieces of legislation including the Alcohol and Gaming Regulation and Public Protection Act, Local Health System Integration Act, the Taxation Act, and Ontario Drug Benefit Act, Past omnibus bills like the HST Act and the Green Energy Act hid severance payments for HST tax collectors and took away municipalities rights to decide on major projects that may have significant health and environmental implications.
