TORONTO, - Subaru Canada, Inc. (SCI) is delighted to announce that TSN's Motoring 2011 television show has named the 2011 Subaru Impreza WRX/STI the Best Sports/Performance Car of the year, beating the Chevrolet Camaro ZL585 and the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500. "Beasts against the beauty—what a fight!" said Graeme Fletcher of Motoring 2011. "In a straight line, either of the Pony cars wins hands-down. However, neither managed to carve a corner with quite the same tenacity as the WRX. Throw in a top-notch all-wheel drive system, and the Subaru is the clear winner."

The 2011 WRX STI is Subaru's high-performance flagship with its 305-horsepower turbocharged/intercooled Subaru Boxer engine teamed with a 6-speed manual transmission and the exclusive Multi-Mode Driver Controlled Centre Differential (DCCD) version of Subaru's Symmetrical Full-time All-Wheel Drive system. The WRX STI is also equipped with advanced dynamic control systems, including Subaru Intelligent Drive (SI-DRIVE) and a Multi-Mode Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC) system, which features a track performance-optimized mode. Like all Impreza models equipped with a manual transmission, the WRX and WRX STI are equipped with Hill Holder, which can momentarily prevent the vehicle from rolling backward when being driven away from a stop on an incline. Both the 4-door and 5-door Impreza WRX are powered by a 265-horsepower turbocharged/intercooled 2.5-litre Subaru Boxer engine teamed with a 5-speed manual transmission. The highly responsive engine produces 244 lb.-ft. of peak torque at 4,000 rpm. The WRX has been the focus of continuous improvement since its introduction. Most recently, the 2011 model received the same aggressive wide-body design as the iconic WRX STI and a wider track for even better handling. Standard Symmetrical Full-time All-Wheel Drive, which forms the common core technology on all Subaru models, gives the Impreza WRX and WRX STI a significant handling/performance advantage over two-wheel drive competitors. Symmetrical Full-time All-Wheel Drive is a complete system comprised of the Subaru Boxer engine and the all-wheel drive system (which varies by Subaru model and transmission). The all-aluminum Subaru Boxer engine and efficient, symmetrical drivetrain layout help to lower the car's centre of gravity, which in turn contributes to its sporty handling characteristics. The Impreza WRX and WRX STI also provide outstanding safety and exceptional value for the money. Impreza is a 'Top Safety Pick' as designated by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), and in a recent announcement by ALG naming the vehicles expected to achieve the highest retained value, Impreza WRX/WRX STI was named Best Sporty Car. "The continuous evolution and development of the Impreza WRX and WRX STI are driven by strong, loyal, and vocal support from thousands of enthusiastic owners of this exciting vehicle," said Shiro Ohta, chairman, president, and CEO of Subaru Canada. "We are thrilled that the experts at Motoring 2011 appreciate our mutual efforts to make this vehicle a high-performance stand-out."
