DRAMATIC forecasts of global warming resulting from a doubling of atmospheric carbon dioxide have been exaggerated, according to a peer-reviewed study by a team of international researchers. In the study, published today in the leading journal Science, the researchers found that while rising levels of CO2 would cause climate change, the most severe predictions - some of which were adopted by the UN's peak climate body in its seminal 2007 report - had been significantly overstated. --Amos Aikman, The Australian, 25 November 2011
"Now these very large changes (predicted for the coming decades) can be ruled out, and we have some room to breathe and time to figure out solutions to the problem," the study's lead author, Andreas Schmittner, an associate professor at Oregon State University, said. --Amos Aikman, The Australian, 25 November 20 The head of a key British climate lab, a central figure in the 2009 "Climategate" scandal, thought requests made under Great Britain's Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) were a nuisance that should be stonewalled while crucial correspondence is deleted -- unless someone pays up first, that is. --Fox News, 24 November 20 Unfortunately none of the Climategate 'inquiries' did even a reasonable job. None of them interviewed any of the critics … there were no transcripts. The inquiries made erroneous findings on facts known to thousands. In my opinion, the 'inquiries' have actually made matters worse. – Steve McIntyre, Fox News, 24 November 2011

These e-mails show that the scientists are far less certain about the science than they proclaim. There are serious debates, serious doubts and serious questions which is to be welcomed - but why only behind closed doors and why not openly admit these doubts? It is a Jekyll and Hyde attitude. –Beny Peiser, Daily Express, 24 November 2011 The US is refusing to sign off on a flagship global climate fund, as already fraught negotiations intensify ahead of next week’s UN climate summit and carbon prices plummet to an all-time low. --Pilita Clark and Javier Blas, Financial Times, 25 November 2011 SWISS banking giant UBS says the European Union's emissions trading scheme has cost the continent's consumers $287 billion for "almost zero impact" on cutting carbon emissions, and has warned that the EU's carbon pricing market is on the verge of a crash next year. --Sid Maher, The Australian, 22 November 2011 Another Big GWPF Success: British Gas has promised to simplify energy tariffs and provide a more transparent billing system in a bid to regain the trust of its customers. It has also vowed to provide customers with a complete breakdown of all the costs that make up their bills, including green levies and company profits. --Sky News, 24 November 2011 The Government has to come clean and force the power companies to make their bills fully transparent. Only then will those facing spiralling power bills have all the information required to make the appropriate decisions. Only then will the true cost of the Government's mad rush towards renewable energy become clear, allowing voters to back or sack those who formulated the policy. --Benny Peiser, Daily Mail, 9 June 2011
