The fact of the matter is that Americans talk to Russia all the time. Now, every time a Trump-supporting American is founds to have talked to a Russian . . . scandal! Resign!

Oh for crying out loud . . . media now trying to turn Sessions meeting with Russian diplomat into a scandal

You woke up to a lot of this if you didn't see it late last night: Sessions met with Russian official! Didn't disclose it when asked in confirmation hearings! Followed by lots of this: Democrats demand Sessions resign immediately!
What's this all about? Nothing, as you might imagine, but as you might also imagine that's not stopping the media from pretending it's something. Take it away, usual suspect CNN:
Sessions met with Kislyak twice, in July on the sidelines of the Republican convention, and in September in his office when Sessions was a member of the Senate Armed Services committee. Sessions was an early Trump backer and regular surrogate for him as a candidate. Sessions responded swiftly Wednesday, strongly stating that he never discussed campaign-related issues with anyone from Russia. "I never met with any Russian officials to discuss issues of the campaign," he said in a statement. "I have no idea what this allegation is about. It is false." Key Democratic lawmakers immediately called for Sessions' resignation after the news broke.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi characterized Sessions' comments in his confirmation "apparent perjury," and said the attorney general should resign. Kislyak's potential proximity to Russian spying is one reason why Flynn's interactions with him, and Flynn's failure to disclose what he discussed with Kislyak, raised concerns among intelligence officials. In his confirmation hearing to become attorney general, Sessions was asked about Russia and he responded at the time that he "did not have communications with the Russians." Sessions' spokeswoman Sarah Isgur Flores said there was nothing "misleading about his answer" to Congress because the Alabama Republican "was asked during the hearing about communications between Russia and the Trump campaign -- not about meetings he took as a senator and a member of the Armed Services Committee." "Last year, the Senator had over 25 conversations with foreign ambassadors as a senior member of the Armed Services Committee, including the British, Korean, Japanese, Polish, Indian, Chinese, Canadian, Australian, German and Russian ambassadors," Isgur Flores said in the statement.

Maybe Nancy Pelosi should resign for not knowing what "apparent perjury" is

Maybe Nancy Pelosi should resign for not knowing what "apparent perjury" is. This is so ridiculous it's hard to know where to start, but this is what makes this idiotic Trump-campaign-colluded-with-Russia thing such an annoying gnat to try to swat away. The notion Sessions was asked about in his confirmation hearings was if he knew about any Trump campaign officials coordinating with the Russians. No, he said, he didn't. Because as far as anyone has been able to ascertain, none of them did. But wait, Sen. Sessions! You talked to the Russians! Well of course he did. As a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, he talked to ambassadors from all over the place, Russia included. Sessions was a Trump supporter and frequently spoke on the candidate's behalf, but he did not have a job as a campaign official. He did, however, have a job as a senator on a committe dealing with foreign governments, and during the presidential campaign he was doing that job. There was nothing for Session to "disclose" because the question didn't pertain to him doing his normal job as a senator. It pertained to actions of the Trump campaign. But you see how the media are going to play this: The fact of the matter is that Americans talk to Russia all the time. Now, every time a Trump-supporting American is founds to have talked to a Russian . . . scandal! Resign! They are not going to let this go any time soon, even though there is nothing whatsoever to it. The only good news here, I presume, is that nothing will come of it with respect to Sessions because the whole thing is so very idiotic.
