Romney teases 'major' 2016 speech for tomorrow morning

A few days ago, I argued that Romney would be instrumental in the GOP establishment's efforts to steer the electorate toward a brokered convention. Then we heard a crazy rumor that, if no GOP candidate was capable of stopping Trump, Mitt might enter the race himself. Now, Romney is set to make a speech about ...something pertaining to the 2016 race. As Reuters reports:
Former Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney will make a "major speech" on the 2016 White House race on Thursday, Fox News reported on Wednesday. Fox News said there was no sign that Romney was set to enter the 2016 race, citing people close to the 2012 White House hopeful. The speech is scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m. EST.
Yesterday, The Huffington Post reported that the GOP's top 2012 strategist (a guy whose advice I'm sure we're all desperate to take) thinks Hillary would be a better President than Trump.

The Republican Party's top strategist in the 2012 election would rather see Hillary Clinton as the next president than Donald Trump. "Personally, I think Hillary Clinton would be a better president than Donald Trump because I think that Donald Trump is a dangerous person and is someone who would embarrass America," Stuart Stevens, who advised 2012 nominee Mitt Romney, said Tuesday on Bloomberg's "With All Due Respect." "I have no desire to see Hillary Clinton as president of the United States," he added. "But if this is the choice -- I will not give her my vote, but I can't support Donald Trump."
...So, with that in mind, you can assume Romney will not be trying to be unite anyone behind the current frontrunner. This isn't going to be some sort of kumbaya moment. It's going to be one of three things:
  • A: Romney's getting in. As Reuters mentions, this seems spectacularly unlikely. He's a failed candidate, not a crazy person.
  • B: He's delivering his long-rumored Rubio endorsement. The most likely scenario, given the rumors we've been hearing.
  • C: The establishment has some sort of dirt on Trump, and he wants to make sure everyone's paying attention when it's. If Mitt really is the GOPe frontman, this wouldn't be surprising. The party - like all political entities - has its own agenda and Romney's been dropping allusions to Trump's taxes for a week now. This would be a pretty brazen move but if he, or someone within the GOP hierarchy, wants to torpedo Trump, I could see them going this route. It would do the necessary damage while leaving Trump with no one electorally-relevant to retaliate against.
Feel free to let us know what you think Romney is going to deliver tomorrow. P.S. If Romney's going after Trump with a tax scandal, he'd better have his ducks in a row...
