ROGERS, Ark., -- Most Americans believe they are safe from obscene language on television, but the FCC has ruled otherwise. When U2 singer Bono used the F-word on live TV, thousands of complaints flooded the FCC. Their response? They ruled that this word was acceptable on broadcast TV, except in sexual situations. The Supreme Court is now preparing to review such decisions.
Meanwhile, an Arkansas company, TVGuardian, LLC, has a new range of tools that families can use to protect themselves from encountering obscene language when they watch TV. Their device is called "TVGuardian," and, when connected to the back of a television, it automatically mutes out all forms of foul language.

The Supreme Court is about to review past FCC rulings on "fleeting expletives," and the FCC has legislation before it that could help make tools like TVGuardian available to more families. The issue of foul language, it seems, is never going away.
"Words that used to be so rare and offensive on TV just a few years back," says Bennett "are now almost commonplace. And more widespread. Lately I've had customers telling me how they've been hearing foul language on cooking shows."

Says Bennett, "It allows families to watch TV again without having to worry about getting ambushed by language that offends them."
