I flew on the Concorde supersonic jet one time, before it was discontinued as a commercial airline jet. The ride was both exhilarating and scary. Flying faster than the speed of sound seemed pretty cool at first, but when we could actually see the speed displayed on a screen at the front of the cabin, it made me nervous!
If we had hit a bird or any object at that speed then we would have been toast. But on the other hand, we were high enough (above 50,000 feet) that there were probably no birds or other space junk out there to hit the plane. There weren’t. We landed safely.
While we were in flight, we were high enough to see the curvature of the earth. Now that was cool without being an astronaut! It made me think of things in a real big picture.
Most of us perceive our lives as the center of the universe. When in the big picture of this six billion person planet, we are just a speck in time. The world does not revolve around us. We are a part of a revolving world. By the way, make the most of it while we are here.
Politics from 50,000 feet offers some interesting perspectives that often get lost in the day-to-day political micro-minutia, which suggests some scary macro perspectives. This perspective allows you to see that certain things don’t look too terribly egregious up close, but when you see them from 50,000 feet, you realize that the people responsible for them must have a very different perspective on the planet where we live.
I have space for only a few of the most dishonest, deceitful and illogical claims by some of our Democrat elected officials:
- President Obama - "If you like your health insurance plan, you can keep it." (along with a full chorus of Democrats saying the same thing) Also: "There isn't a smidgen of corruption in the IRS."
- Senator Harry Reid (Majority Leader) - "ObamaCare horror stories, all are untrue.”
- Senator Charles Schumer (D-New York) - "A single mom who's raising three kids and has to keep a job because of health care can now (because of ObamaCare) spend some time raising those kids. That's a family value."
- Representative Nancy Pelosi (former Democrat Speaker of the House) - "We have to pass it (ObamaCare) so you can find out what is in it."
- Representative Debbie Wasserman-Schultz (Chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee) - "Democrats are going to run on ObamaCare." Here’s a bonus quote from her, when asked if Democrats lied about ObamaCare: “No. There was nothing about what President Obama or that I or any other Democrat supporting the Affordable Care Act said that was not true.”
These are the elected "leaders" of the Democrat Party. Many other Democrats have echoed the same statements, and some gullible supporters have even tried to defend this stupidity and deceit.
The 50,000-foot perspective of these statements suggests that the people telling these lies simply don’t view the curvature of the Earth in the same way you and I do. Consider the following:
They lie (1,2). As
I wrote recently, it is astonishing that they can tell such blatant lies and not be ashamed. But the reason is that they are shameless when it comes to their political agenda, and they trust that enough of the gullible will forget they lied by Election Day.
They ignore the facts (1,2,3). I've told you this before and some of you are now seeing it for yourself. A single mom is supposed to be "thankful" she might lose her job or work fewer hours because of ObamaCare! So how does she feed those kids with less income? Food stamps!
They expect people to be gullible and stupid (4,5). I don't know about you but I am still insulted by Nancy Pelosi's statement, and I hope Democrats run on ObamaCare. So far, they are running away from ObamaCare.
They shift the subject. Democrats talk about anything and everything except ObamaCare! Immigration, income inequality, injustice, infrastructure spending, defense spending, fat kids, food labeling, climate change – wow . . . they even continue to lie about that and get away with it – and “obstructionist” Republicans who will not get out of their way are just a few of the "anything but ObamaCare" Democrat topics.
Did you notice that the first letters of LIE, IGNORE, EXPECT, and SHIFT spell the acronym L.I.E.S. Oops! My bad, that was an accident.
Maybe the Democrats’ problem is that they have never gotten up high enough to perceive the majesty of the world. If they did, they might not be so convinced that the world revolves around them – and they might not be willing to lie so blatantly just for their own short-term political survival.
I have my issues with Republicans and they have not always done their jobs up to the expectations of the American people. They drink the water inside the Beltway just like Democrats. But the Republicans have never committed a set of whoppers like this in modern times.
To Democrats who voted for these people, strip away the label and stop being played for fools. To those who will vote for Democrats in 2014, there is an America outside of Planet Democrat. Its trust is neither in Democrats nor in the government.
Our trust is in the people, and our motto is, "In God we trust."
