Too good: Hillary's e-mail wiper went on Reddit for advice on how to hide a 'VERY VIP' address

If you don't know the name Paul Combetta, you might simply remember him as Stonetear. That's how he's apparently known both on Reddit and on Etsy, and he's the guy at Platte River Networks who was tasked with trying to wipe Hillary's server clean of all her e-mails after they became the subject of a congressional subpoena. As you might expect, Hillary neither wanted Combetta to comply with the subpoena nor proceed legally. What she wanted was for him to make sure that no one could trace anything she was doing back to her, which presented him with the unusual challenge of trying to replace Hillary's e-mail with a fake one. How do you do that? Combetta didn't know. So he took to Reddit using his screen name Stonetear to see if anyone could help. How do we know this? Because Reddit users sniffed it out yesterday. And hilarity ensued:
One archived comment from July 24, 2014 – during the same month that the State Department first asked Clinton aide Cheryl Mills to turn over the former secretary of state’s work-related emails from her personal server – shows Reddit user “stonetear” asking others on the site: “Hello all- I may be facing a very interesting situation where I need to strip out a VIP's (VERY VIP) email address from a bunch of archived email… Does anyone have experience with something like this, and/or suggestions on how this might be accomplished?” Multiple Reddit users at the time responded that it was not possible, saying Microsoft does not include an option to change addresses on existing emails because altering them could be used by people to evade court-ordered discovery procedures. One wrote: “[If Microsoft Exchange] allowed this, it could result in major legal issues. There may be ways to hack a solution, but I am not aware of any.” User “stonetear” responded: “The issue is that these emails involve the private email address of someone you'd recognize, and we're trying to replace it with a placeholder address as to not expose it.”

So the other Reddit users told him that what he's trying to do is likely illegal, and thus the Microsoft Exchange does not provide a way to do it. But that's not even the best part. Yesterday, as Combetta became aware that others had figured out his identity, he began furiously deleting all his posts - only to have the other users move to archive his posts so they wouldn't be lost. One guy actually recorded live video of "Stonetear" trying to delete all his posts. This is remininscent of when Dan Rather and Mary Mapes were trying to sell people on the National Guard letter that supposedly cast George W. Bush in a negative light, only to have blogger Allahpundit and other Internet users realize that the letter, supposedly typed in 1971, was almost certainly a fake because it was typed out using Microsoft Word. The situations are different but the commonality is that regular Internet users did the job the news media should have done. I'll repeat an expression we've used here recently: Hillary is a creature of the shadows, and her survival depends on your not being to see what really goes on in those shadows. When something gets exposed to the light, the inevitable result is a furious and desperate attempt to delete, hide, destroy and eliminate - lest the truth be known.

The truth is that Hillary's schlock, homebrew e-mail server violate by official policy and the law, and it was used to facilitate official corruption while hiding this fact from exposure via subpoena and Freedom of Information Act requests. The idea was supposed to be that because the schlock, homebrew e-mail server was off the grid, no one would ever know about it or what was on it. When that didn't work, and subpoenas were indeed forthcoming, Hillary had those who ran it for her set about on an urgent effort to eliminate everything on there rather than comply with the subpoenas. And yet the effort was so sloppy that the guy tasked with doing it was actually going on Reddit asking people for advice as to how. Astonishing. And some of you really want this woman to be your president?
