Large vehicles and SUVs continue to maintain strong sales momentum

Toyota Canada Inc. reports February 2011 sales

Toyota Canada Inc. (TCI) today reported sales of 9,480 Toyota, Lexus and Scion cars, trucks and SUVs in February 2011, down 25.3% from a year earlier. Toyota Canada continued to see model line sales increases, including the second best February ever for Lexus. Large vehicles and SUVs continued to perform well, with best-ever February results for the Canadian-built Toyota RAV4 and Lexus RX 350, all positive signs as the industry enters what is traditionally its most important selling season of the year. Other vehicles showing strong sales included new generation vehicles such as the Toyota Avalon and Sienna.

Toyota sales in February 2011

Toyota sold 8,486 cars, trucks and SUVs in February, down 28.0% from the previous year. Highlights for Toyota in February 2011 (versus February 2010) include:
  • Best ever February for made-in-Canada RAV4 Compact SUV: up 6.6%
  • Avalon full-size sedan: up 285.7%
  • Sienna minivan: up 238.3%
  • Highlander mid-size SUV: up 33.3%
  • Sequoia full-size SUV: up 23.3%

Lexus sales in February 2011

Lexus sold 837 luxury cars and SUVs in February, down 7.2% from the previous year, but enjoyed a best-ever February for Lexus luxury SUVs, up 0.2% to 538. Additional highlights for Lexus in February 2011 (versus February 2010) include:
  • IS C entry luxury hardtop convertible coupe: up 78.6%
  • GS 350 performance luxury sedans: up 38.5%
  • IS series entry luxury sedans: up 11.6%

Scion sales in February 2011

Scion Canada sold 157 vehicles in February. The trendsetting brand continues to attract young urban drivers to Scion showrooms - 55% of Scion buyers since launch are under the age of 35 - as it prepares to expand its dealer network to new urban markets this year.
