Transcript of Special Counsel Robert Hur’s Interview with President Biden

To date, there are two key documents publicly available concerning the Department of Justice’s investigation into “possible unauthorized removal and retention of classified documents or other records” by President Joe Biden.

What follows pertains only to the released transcript recorded on October 8-9, 2023. Listed participants were as follows (only altered by adding spacing to ease reading).

“RECORDED INTERVIEW BETWEEN SPECIAL COUNSEL ROBERT HUR (SCO), DEPUTY SPECIAL COUNSEL SPECIAL AGENT MARC KRICKBAUM (SCO), ASSISTANT SPECIAL COUNSEL DOJ) , SUPERVISORY SPECIAL AGENT DOJ DOJ (FBI), (FBI), EDWARD SISKEL (WHC), RICHARD SAUBER (WHC), RACHEL COTTON (WHC) , ROBERT BAUER (PC), DAVID LAUFMAN (PC) and PRESIDENT JOSEPH R. BIDEN, JR” (original punctuation is altered to delete run-on words)

Apparently, in addition to the two appointed Special Counsels (Hur, Krickbaum) there was: one unnamed DoJ Asst. Special Counsel; one unnamed FBI Agent; three White House Counsels; two Private Counsels representing President Biden; and, of course, the President. A total of ten participants.

The tone among all nine parties was polite and appropriately respectful on several occasions when the President launched into longer monologues pertaining to material not directly relevant to the inquiry. The longest such occasion occurred when the President offered an unsolicited explanation of a book he wrote about his deceased son, Beau. It covers about 1200 words in the transcript. He was not interrupted.

The draft document of the two-day interview in October 2023 contains 258 total pages with wide margins. A word search of the document contains these responses to queries posed to President Biden: “not certain” (2); “didn’t know” (3); “can’t remember” (7); “can’t ever recall” (7); “I have no idea” (13); “not sure” ((17); “don’t recall” (32); “don’t remember” (38); “don’t know” (77).

A bound document, dated 12 March 2024, is publicly available entitled “THE HUR REPORT,” and subtitled “Report on the Investigation Into Unauthorized Removal, Retention, and Disclosure of Classified Documents Discovered at Locations Including the Penn Biden Center and the Delaware Private Residence of President Joseph R. Biden, Jr.It contains 345 pages, plus 41 additional pages of supporting information.
