If Sessions stays in the job, he should put a timetable on the Mueller investigation, giving it a deadline to yield proof of collusion. If the clock runs out and there is no proof of misconduct by the President Sessions should blow the whistle

Trump should fire Attorney General Jeff Sessions

Swamp draining is not genteel work. And Jeff Sessions, the consummate gentlemen, has not yet displayed the grit required for that work. As Senator Sessions from Alabama, he was a model of decorum, dignity and collegial demeanor in the U.S. Senate. He was, and remains, loyal to his state, to his family, and to his oath of office--a good and honorable man. His confirmation hearing--when friends and former colleagues from across the aisle directly, or indirectly, accused him of being a racist--should have been his wake-up call that political life inside the Trump administration would bring confrontations with ravenous D.C. Swamp creatures. But, if he took that wake-up call, he does not appear to have taken it to heart.
Instead, Sessions continues to engage the Left Stream Media and Democrat pols using the political equivalent of the 1865 Marquess of Queensberry rules for boxing. Unfortunately, his job as U.S. Attorney General calls more for the skills--to keep the pugilistic metaphor going--of an Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) contender. Early on, Sessions recused himself from the investigation into the alleged collusion (to influence the 2016 POTUS election) between the Trump campaign and Russia. He did so, he stated, on the basis of the highest ethical and moral grounds. His recusal left Deputy Attorney General Rod J. Rosenstein free to appoint former F.B.I. Director Robert S. Mueller III as Special Counsel to oversee the investigation. Since then, the range of Mueller's investigation has expanded, and promises to continue to expand. That should surprise no one. Mueller's expanding inquiry continues to add staff and spend money. The absence of zero evidence of collusion is of no consequence. It's all about the intrepid hunt for…illegalities. The unstated goal is to indict one or more Trump associates with a process crime. The Plamegate investigation serves as a model for the likely outcome. It's a movie we've seen before, including some of the same actors.

Sessions' recusal opened the door to a DoJ-sanctioned effort to search for ways to undermine the Trump administration until it takes one or more Trump-related scalps. The desired outcome is to damage the Trump Presidency, perhaps beyond repair, and negatively influence the Republican chances of maintaining control of both houses of Congress in 2018. "Yes, but"--someone might ask--"Mueller is, historically, a Republican, so why would he want to damage a Republican President?" That's easily answered: Mueller is a well-established Establishment Republican. Trump made mincemeat out of all their 2016 POTUS candidates, and he did it with UFC rules. Consequently, as the Left Stream Media and Democrat politicians maintain a steady, daily fusillade of resistance to all-things Trump, the GOPe offers him minimum support. Many professional Republicans would welcome his failure as President. They assume that if Trump fails, his supporters--who were largely Republicans to begin with--will be immediately amenable to supporting another GOP candidate, and would never vote Democrat. If that's their assumption, it is one fraught with risk. None of this infighting comes as a surprise. What does come as a surprise is when a flamethrower of opposition barks out from inside the Executive branch. It's like taking hostile fire from inside the perimeter. Fact is, Sessions should have anticipated this outcome when he registered his recusal. He has served in D.C. long enough to know how the Swamp works. Apparently, he did not factor the consequences of an open-ended investigation into his recusal decision; nor, according to Trump, did he inform the President of his intention to recuse himself. The Department of Justice, under Sessions' leadership, occasionally heralds significant, but routine, crime-fighting raids regarding drug price-fixing, corporate tax fraud, and alleged antitrust activities by major container lines. All these, and other activities, are worthy of note. But, meanwhile, there is little evidence of investigations underway into other venues that appear to be receiving little, or no, attention. That list includes, but is not limited to these questions:

  1. Why have no government leakers of classified information to the media been arrested?
  2. Was Hillary Clinton completely exonerated from having illegally distributed classified emails?
  3. Is there no investigation into the Clinton Foundation underway at the DoJ, particularly with regard to Uranium One?
  4. Is there any federal investigation into the murder of Seth Rich? (The alleged investigation by the D.C. Metro Police Department seems to be stalled.)
  5. What became of the investigation into the classified emails found on Anthony Weiner's (AKA: Carlos Danger) laptop?
  6. Is there a DoJ inquiry into Clinton Campaign Chair John Podesta and a Russian bank?
  7. Are the Awan brothers being investigated along with the Democrat legislators who employed them?
  8. Has Huma Abedin been cleared of illegally transferring classified emails to Weiner's laptop?
  9. Is the explanation of Loretta Lynch's tarmac conversation with Bill Clinton before the election no longer a concern--to anyone--in the DoJ?
If Sessions stays in the job, he should put a timetable on the Mueller investigation, giving it a deadline to yield proof of collusion. And, if the clock runs out and there is no proof of misconduct by the President, or anyone associated with him today, or in the past, Sessions should blow the whistle and end this silly game. Otherwise, it will go on like the hunt for the Lost Dutchman's Gold Mine.
