U.S. gave Iran secret exemptions to get the infamous nuclear deal done

No wonder Iran feels free to threaten to break our legs. They never face any consequences for anything they do, including exceeding limits supposedly negotiated in the now-infamous nuclear deal that Obama and Kerry claim keeps them from becoming a nuclear power, but which actually does the opposite. Reuters reports today that the infamous deal was even more favorable to Iran than we previously knew, as Obama and Kerry secretly added all kinds of exemptions - which they claim they told Congress about, but which at least one Democrat senator says are total news to him:
The White House official said the administration had briefed Congress "frequently and comprehensively" on the joint commission's work. Democratic Senator Bob Menendez, a leading critic of the Iran deal and a senior member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, told Reuters in an email: "I was not aware nor did I receive any briefing (on the exemptions).” As part of the concessions that allowed Iran to exceed uranium limits, the joint commission agreed to exempt unknown quantities of 3.5 percent LEU contained in liquid, solid and sludge wastes stored at Iranian nuclear facilities, according to the report. The agreement restricts Iran to stockpiling only 300 kg of 3.5 percent LEU. The commission approved a second exemption for an unknown quantity of near 20 percent LEU in "lab contaminant" that was determined to be unrecoverable, the report said. The nuclear agreement requires Iran to fabricate all such LEU into research reactor fuel.

If the total amount of excess LEU Iran possesses is unknown, it is impossible to know how much weapons-grade uranium it could yield, experts said. The draft report said the joint commission also agreed to allow Iran to keep operating 19 radiation containment chambers larger than the accord set. These so-called "hot cells" are used for handling radioactive material but can be "misused for secret, mostly small-scale plutonium separation efforts," said the report. Plutonium is another nuclear weapons fuel.
Even the limits Iran supposedly has to stick to are meaningless, because when someone accuses them of a violation, it triggers an appeal process so arduous it's basically impossible to actually nail them on anything. But with all these exemptions, what exactly are they not allowed to do? And about this business that they briefed Congress every step of the way, how much of a crock is that when even the Democrat Sen. Menendez says it never happened?

The Iran deal is one of the most bizarre things I've ever seen a U.S. president do. I think I know Obama's motivation: He thinks it's stupid that the U.S. remains at odds with certain nations for long periods of time, and he thinks it's his job to be the bigger man or something and make nice with long-time enemies. That is both extremely naive and highly arrogant, but then, there's your 44th president, America. He thinks all his predecessors were under some sort of silly delusion about Iran, and he is the only one wise enough to know that we should be their pals. That's his motivation, but the machinations he went through to get this deal done simply defy any logical explanation. All the concessions, the secret exemptions . . . and basically having Kerry act as Iran's lawyer in dealing with our allies and with Congress. Remember Kerry's proclamation that if Congress voted down the agreement, the mullahs would never trust us again? What the hell was that? Throughout this entire thing, Obama and Kerry have been obsessed with pleasing the mullahs no matter what the cost to the interests of the United States. And remember: Donald Trump vows to toss out this agreement. Hillary vows to keep it. Vote wisely, America.
