They'll never stop this. I guess it's just a fact of life. The left-wing mainstream media are obsessed with race. The very people who point their fingers endlessly at conservatives and call us racists see a racial angle to every thought, every action and every reaction that ever happens on Earth.
So no one should be surprised that the Washington Post decided to publish a story yesterday, claiming on the flimsiest of evidence, that Trump voters were motivated by nostalgia for the good old days in America, when there weren't all those durn minorities around.
A yearning for an earlier time, especially prevalent in rural American towns and cities like Mount Airy, helped spur white evangelical Christians to vote overwhelmingly for Donald Trump. For these voters, the desire for change also could be viewed as a desire to change back, to what they perceive as a more wholesome and prosperous time, when high-paying manufacturing jobs were plentiful, white Protestants were indisputably in charge and same-sex marriage and the Black Lives Matter movement were unthinkable.
Seventy-four percent of white evangelicals believe American culture has mostly changed for the worse since the 1950s — more than any other group of Americans — compared with 56 percent of all whites, according toa 2016 survey by the Public Religion Research Institute. In sharp contrast, 62 percent of African Americans and 57 percent of Hispanic Americans think the culture has changed for the better, the survey said.
With his promise to “Make America Great Again,” Trump appealed directly to this sense of dispossession, and 81 percent of white evangelicals voted for him, according to exit polls.
“You think back to the 1990s, and conservative Christians could throw around the phrase ‘moral majority,’ and there was a kernel of truth to that,” said Robert P. Jones, CEO at PRRI and author of “The End of White Christian America.” “Even in 2008, they could say the country is on our side on [same-sex marriage], and that’s changed so quickly in this last decade. The election hit on fundamental questions about what America is and should be.”

So apparently Pulliam Bailey traveled to a small town called Mount Airy, talked to a few people, interviewed the author of a book called "The End of White Christian America," and felt justified based on this to write a story ascribing the motivations of Trump voters to racism. To you and me, this is eye-rollingly stupid. But in your average MSM newsroom, a writer like Pulliam Bailey is getting pats on the back from editors and fellow reporters for her brave willingness to speak candidly about the deep-seated racism in all of us.
Let's just lay a few things out here:
The boss sometimes talks about the difference between "political people" and "normal people." I would say that for the purposes of this discussion, journalists fit in the category of political people. Normal people are just everyday people who work, live in a neighborhood, shop in the stores, go to church and send their kids to school. You see them in the coffee shop or at events around town. And normal people almost never think about race, or about the skin color of anyone they might encounter or have anything to do with. Normal people who are white don't look at a black person and think, "Black person!" They just think they see a person. Normal black people who see a white person are exactly the same. We don't "resent that they've taken the power," whatever that means, because we don't even think in terms like that.
Because we're not insanely stupid.
But political people, including journalists, put almost everything in racial terms. They also ascribe racial motives to actions people take, even when there is no clear reason to think there is one, and there's no reason to think a racial agenda would be achieved by an action.

If you're yearning for the days of white America, whatever that means, why do you think electing Donald Trump is make your wish come true? Donald Trump has no agenda of the sort, despite the media's constant insinuations that he does. And no normal intelligent person thinks he does, so for the Post to suggest that's why we all voted for him is nothing more than the Post projecting its own obsession with race on the rest of us.
It's nothing new, and I don't think it influences many people, but it would be nice if Americans could count on news sources to tell them the truth about what's going on, rather than making up motives of the public and then going to do a handful of interviews for the purpose of confirming the Post's preconceived notion. The people from whom we get our news are obsessed with race, and they can't fathom the possibility that the rest of us are not. Because they do all their reporting through that prism, they're reporting on an America that doesn't even really exist.
I think we might call that fake news.
