You probably know John Oliver from his occasional stints as the guest host of Comedy Central's The Daily Show. He also appears regularly on NBC's vastly underrated (and perpetually almost-cancelled) sitcom, Community. Now, you'll likely be seeing more of him, as he begins hosting his own show each week on HBO.
Called "Last Week Tonight," Oliver promises that the new comedy show will reflect the lightning-fast pace of our 24-hour world as it airs breaking news "Once a week. On Sunday nights. At eleven."
Anyway, last night was the first episode, and it was pretty funny. The standout moment, however, was an epic takedown of Oregon's enormously expensive ObamaCare website nightmare. It even features singer Lisa Loeb in a send up of the State's saccharine "CoverOregon" advertisements. It is, in a word, spectacular.
Just know that, since this airs on HBO, the language gloves come off.
