Obama: From Savior to Leftist Windbag in Nine Months

Blindly following the “can’t fail” left-wing playbook since gaining the White House - massive government spending, gigantic tax increases, no nukes - and habit for being dishonest with the American people, President Obama has stretched his credibility to the breaking point and people are taking notice.

That’s right folks, our President is a far left radical nut whose status with the American people, and the world in general, is falling faster than the Iranian stock market. The campaign phenomenon who came into power with promises of “Hope and Change” is now promoting an old but familiar Democrat message, “Appeasement is Strength”. Examples of Obama’s naive leadership abound. He folded like a lawn chair to the Russians regarding missile defense in Eastern Europe, he was personally humiliated by South American dictator Hugo Chavez by shaking the man’s hand as he was handed a book detailing U.S. “imperialist crimes”, and he got a boot to the head from North Korea when he attempted to initiate negotiations regarding their nuclear program - they responded by launching a missile at Hawaii! Obama was at the UN this week calling for his brave new world, but in reality no one is listening … unless of course you count his bashing of Israel, a universal UN message if there ever was one. During his opening speech, Obama reminded the world that he “does not accept the legitimacy of continued Israel settlements." Fortunately, the Israelis are starting to tune him out like everybody else. Prime Minister Netanyahu complemented the President for his “unequivocal” support for the state of Israel and completely ignored Obama’s questioning of the settlements. It doesn’t take much to figure out the UN is a lost cause for those who wish to promote freedom and democracy; all you have to do is look around the room. Soon after Obama spoke Libyan dictator Gaddafi took the stage to blame Israel for JFK’s assassination, amongst other crazy talk. Iranian dictator Mahmoud “Bloodbath” Ahmadinejad extolled the importance of free elections - the same man who stole an election only a few months earlier and is still jailing and murdering his political opponents to this very day. Hugo Chavez got a big round of American-hating applause when he said “it doesn’t smell like sulfur in here anymore” in reference to President Bush whom he had previously referred to as the devil. Obama wants to build a new world order with the help of these madmen?

Obama The Duke, A Number One

Words are cheap and Obama used a whole lot of them to promote his socialist-light agenda to the nation last year. There might not be much in the ways of original ideas floating around in his head - just a collection of discarded Democrat lost causes from the past half century or so - but most would agree that he can appear quite charming when he speaks. No other politician can defend the death panel concept as well as Obama … he actually makes people think “I want to be a part of that!” Worse than his supporters believing in him as a savior, Obama has bought into his own hype as well. “We are the ones we’ve been waiting for,” he famously stated during the campaign. No longer was Obama simply a Senator running for President, instead he became The One, as Newsweek Editor Evan Thomas described "above the country, above the world … a sort of God."

A prophecy fulfilled, a nation saved

Not quite. Obama has convinced himself that as a man of destiny he doesn’t have to bother with trivial matters like telling the truth or keeping his word. In an effort to sell healthcare reform to the nation that it doesn’t want, Obama habitually plays fast and loose with the truth. It’s gotten to the point where he can barely speak on the subject for longer than a few minutes without someone wanting to cough up the word “liar” in the background, just like Rep. Joe Wilson did last week. The inaccuracies Obama keeps repeating are, for lack of a better word, stupendous. He insists that insuring millions of additional people through the government will be “deficit neutral”, a claim that is refuted by the CBO, and just about anyone else not on methamphetamine. He can’t even be honest about something as simple as the number of Americans who lack health insurance. The 46 million uninsured Americans that Obama touted for months somehow got whittled down to 30 million people last week. What happened to the missing 16 million people, did he kill them? Obama has convinced himself that all a President needs to lead a nation are fancy speeches and mastery of the nuance of language. He thought seniors wouldn’t mind hundreds of billions of dollars in Medicare cuts if he explained it to them in just the right way. Despite claims by the administration that Medicare wouldn’t be affected, most seniors aren’t buying it. They came out in August by the thousands to protest against Obama’s attempt to con them out of their benefits.

We’ve been sold a stimulus bill that wasn’t, a climate bill that isn’t, and a healthcare bill that shouldn’t

Obama did accomplish one thing so far, which was sign a $787 billion “stimulus” package into law that was nothing of the sort. It was presented as an economy saver, but in reality it’s a job killer. There have been some signs of economic recovery, however, unemployment still hovers near 10% and is expected to stay there for years. This is mainly due to the astronomical amount of money Obama spent during the first few months of his presidency. A fast climbing deficit and fears of hyperinflation have made the entire economy vulnerable and as a result, businesses are hunkering down for an expected long lasting downturn and are not hiring any new employees. If the nearly one trillion dollars had actually been spent towards, you know, job creation, maybe we wouldn’t be in this apparently never ending unemployment pickle. The cap and trade energy legislation meant to cut greenhouse gas emissions is the persona non grata of Congress since being passed in the House in June. There has been barely a mention of it since, most likely because it’s never going to pass the Senate. During a time when the planet is cooling because of changes in the solar output, regulating CO2 is starting to look crazy to the majority of Americans, especially during of the worst recession in 30 years. For more information check out my CFP article Welcome to Solar Minimum. Healthcare reform is the hardest nut to crack as it is still being intensely debated in the Senate. No one really knows what legislation, if any, will be passed. Best bet is that the centrist and progressive factions of the Democrat party are unsuccessful in crafting a compromise. Progressives want complete government takeover of the healthcare system while Blue Dogs still believe, at least a little bit, in the power of free markets. Reconciling these opposing viewpoints will most likely prove too difficult just as it did for HillaryCare in the 1990s. Either way, Obama appearing on The Late Show with David Letterman last week to promote healthcare reform smacks of desperation. How out of touch does an administration need to be to think Letterman is an appropriate venue for the President of the United States? What’s next, a guest spot on Scrubs?

“Don’t tell me words don’t matter” Obama said during the election … well sure they do, except when they don’t

Obama has given over 120 press conferences in the first 8 months of his presidency compared to around 40 for George W. Bush and Bill Clinton, most dedicated to one doomsday scenario or another. If we don’t pass cap and trade … we’re all going to die; if healthcare reform doesn’t happen … we’re all going to die; if we don’t stop Israel from building houses in the West Bank, you guessed it … we’re DEFINITELY all going to die. Like the boy who cried fire, with each passing day Obama is whittling down the power of the presidency. We’ve already reached the point where none of the world’s tyrants care what Obama has to say, our allies are tired of being snubbed and ignored, and most Americans are becoming wary of his half-truths and pie-in-the-sky progressive causes. Obama is well on his way to being universally regarded as Jimmy Carter’s even crazier younger brother. Bravo Mr. President. Bravo.
