imageTake heart, American Patriots everywhere! Figurative bells began ringing out from the bellwether City of Toronto last night, sounding the clarion call: “Progressives beware!” For the first time that anybody could remember the penny-pinching, small c conservative Councillor Rob Ford is now Toronto mayor. Toronto has long been Canada’s center of progressive politics and far left activists had come to regard it as a lock-down state.

The main lesson from the voting public: If it can happen here, it can happen anywhere. During an ugly campaign where the far left and its toady MSM threw everything but the proverbial kitchen sink at him including his weight after all other smears had failed, Ford won with 383,501 votes--more than the votes of his two main opponents combined, his closest one being MSM darling George Simitherman, a former Liberal Cabinet Minister. In the same election, four incumbent councillors, including Sandra Bussin, who all but owned the Toronto Beaches, fell to humiliating defeat. Newcomer Mary Margaret McMahon garnered 15,159 votes compared to Bussin’s 5,998. Toronto Star-endorsed Councillor Paula Fletcher, former President of the Canadian Communist Party, reclaimed her seat with a margin of only 259 votes. Outgoing mayor David Miller man, mayoral candidate Councillor Joe Pantalone, media dubbed the “tree man” was left far behind in the dust. Hard to believe that this is the same council led by Miller, who brought Robert Kennedy Jr. to town during his first run for mayor in 2003. In an American Democrat style vicious campaign that included “Canada’s Business Newspaper” the Globe and Mail calling Ford’s weight “unprecedented”, conservative voters who had it up to here with out-of-control City Hall spending to prop up council’s socialist policies, ignored all smear campaigns and got out to vote for the mayor of their choice. ACORN had been going door to door for weeks. Polls, indicating the race was razor edge close, were proven false in 11 single minutes! New Democrat Party Leader Jack Layton, longtime leader of the far left in Canada and attendee of President Barack Obama’s DNC Denver speech; his wife, MP Olivia Chow; election night big loser Sandra Bussin (Toronto’s version of Nancy Pelosi) got a message they did not want to hear last night. While euphoria erupted within minutes of the polls closing with Ford declared the winner, Toronto’s far left elite must have had a bad case of “Blues in the Night”. The Judy Rebicks, Maude Barlows, Trade unionist John Cartwrights (aka Mr. Paula Fletcher), the Sid Ryans (Ontario Federation of Labour president and Gaza Flotilla advocate) the John Clarke’s (Ontario Coalition of Poverty head honcho) and ACORN activists everywhere are picking up the pieces. If there is one thing last night’s election results prove it’s that the MSM is no longer a factor in elections. Many of the candidates endorsed by Canada’s largest newspaper, the Toronto Star and the Globe & Mail went down in defeat. Business managers should now know why circulation and advertising is nosediving at both publications. Toronto’s election news is made all the more promising because it shows eight days before America’s midterms that the underdog still has a fighting chance. America, you can do the same for Pelosi, Reid, Barbara Boxer et al leaving Obama in the same funk. Meanwhile, Welcome Back Toronto, you finally came home last night.
