UPTARG – Union of Productive Taxpayers Against Repressive Government

What’s In a Name? – The New Tea Party Moniker

What’s in a name? That rhetorical question has been asked throughout the ages. For instance, the name of an organization is often the key to determining the success of said organization. Take, for example, Waste Management. This corporation has been phenomenally successful hauling and disposing of trash and garbage.
The ability to take something unpalatable and give it a pleasing name is an art that has been practiced for eons. Imagine if Waste Management had chosen the name “Talking Trash” instead. Do you think that it would have enjoyed the same degree of success? Lately, the Tea Party has come under a heavy degree of assault from those on the left. Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) recently stated that members of the Tea Party can “go straight to hell”. Rep. Andre Carson (D-IN) has made some very disparaging remarks regarding the Tea Party. Carson’s remarks were so incendiary that even New York civil rights leader Michael Meyers referred to them as “vile”. Most recently, Teamsters Union president James Hoffa proclaimed, in reference to the Tea Party, that he wanted to “...take these son of a bitches out.”

The mere mention of the name “Tea Party”, among liberals, conjures up images of hate-filled, racist, Bible-thumping, gun-toting extremists. Their reaction to the term is much the same as the seething rage that wells up within them when the names Dick Cheney, Sarah Palin, and Scott Walker are uttered in their presence. For this reason, the Tea Party should fire back by rebranding itself. It should consider adopting a new moniker. Something to make it sound more pleasing to the media and others on the left. UPTARG – Union of Productive Taxpayers Against Repressive Government has a nice ring to it. Who could possibly be against productive taxpayers (as long as they’re not rich)? And no one is really in favor of a repressive government, are they? Lastly, the organization’s new name contains the word “UNION”. What could possibly be better? The new name with the word “union” in it should allow the left to fawn over it ad infinitum. Who knows? Perhaps James Hoffa himself will become a fan. Then again, he might just try to muscle his way to power in the new Tea Party union. Perhaps UPTARG can charge its members dues so that Hoffa and his fellow union thugs can reap the benefits. After all, allowing union leaders to get filthy rich at the expense of the rank-and-file has been, for decades, the name of the game. What do you say, Mr. Hoffa? Are you up to the challenge? Are you ready to fight THIS union?
